Reiki Healing

I have seen it work on a colicking horse. But it was explained to me very simply: Animals pick up on subtle cues from us (heart rate/breathing). If you can slow your breathing/heart rate, it will, in turn, help relax the animal.

Scientific study has shown the opposite to be true: The experiment I am thinking of is the umbrella experiment. Handlers walked horses up and down a path with people standing holding closed umbrellas. The handlers were told that on the third pass, the umbrellas would be opened
only they didn’t actually open them. None the less, even though NOTHING had changed, the handlers expected it to change (and for the horses to spook) and so their heart rates increased, and so did the horses’ heart rates.

If we can make a horse nervous with nervous energy, why is it hard to accept that we can also transmit calming energy and calm a heart rate, which in turn can help healing?

Explained that way, I would be fully supportive of Reiki, in the same way that I support the idea of a hot bath and a glass of wine.

I have seen Reiki work on people, dogs and horses. Animals make great patients because their reactions don’t lie.

Is it a substitute for veterinary care? Absolutey not, but like most alternative and natural therapies, it has it’s benefits when used in conjunction with proper care and nutrition.

I used to use a couple for my horse Snidely. The husband did acupressure and the wife followed behind him with Reiki. This horse HATED massage. I mean hated it. Tried 2 different massage therapists. He was not a cuddly horse. He was great to ride but pretty nasty on the ground. I have the scar on my back 20 years later to prove that. When the kids would groom him for lessons he had on a muzzle and the instuctor would put on the bridle.

He really loved this couple. When their Volvo would pull down the driveway he would nicker. Whatever they did certainly helped with his body soreness. He was all lovey dovey with both the husband and wife. It may have been largely the acupressure but he still liked the wife who did the Reiki. This was a horse that did not like anyone. He mostly tolerated me on the ground outside his stall and outside his field. Very territorial.

The farm dog also loved when the wife would do Reiki on her. She had a repaired ACL tear. She always seemed more comfortable for a few days after they had been there. The husband never did any acupressure on her.

I don’t know why it worked for both the farm dog and my horse but he sure loved those treatments.
