Ultium is meant to be fed at a minimum of 5-6 lbs a day. I’d increase the Ultium before adding an expensive supplement.[/QUOTE]

That was my first question too. He gets two pounds a day- I was thinking per feeding. The other horse has some teeth issues though and this was recommended. I can up the ultium instead if my horse prefers ultium and will not steal his buddies food- but he did really well with rice bran in the past.

How much weight gain would you expect from a half pound of ultium vs. Half a pound of this? What do you think is the eating time equivalent of ultium vs. this?

Weight gain is about nutrition as well as calories. The older a horse is, or the more there are chewing issues, the higher quality the nutrition has to be. RG is offering relatively little in the way of nutrition, while Ultium is offering a great deal.

I’m more concerned with the overall balance of the diet. I try to feed as few products as possible, since people much smarter than me are designing the premium brand concentrates. I trust they get the balance right, and I should not add too much other stuff that might unbalance it. If you are already feeding a premium brand, it already HAS all the good stuff in it and you should not need an expensive topper.

And coconut is one of my favorite flavors, but it seems to be the fad of the year wrt nutrition.
