Replacing tires on lightweight Euro trailer??

Well, some of your understanding of the physics of trailer swag is wrong. Factors in sway are also the wheelbase of the tow vehicle, the aerodynamics of the total package, and the balance of the weight inside the trailer. trailer sway can be induced in any trailer and I know this because I’ve done it, including inducing a sway situation with my bockmann that was caused by uneven tire pressures from a tire that was going flat.

Wdh do not by themselves control sway. They do correct an imbalance of tow vehicle axle weights which helps reduce sway but sway controlling hitches (sometimes both are in one design) use physical resistance to movement out-of-straight by the trailer tongue. This forces the trailer to have to overcome the opposing force to begin to sway, which greatly reduces the # of sway incidents because controlling the sway once it starts is very difficult.

None of this has anything to do with the question of passenger tires, just for future persons reading this.

Adding a WDH shifts some weight back onto the trailer wheels

I’m sorry, but this is not true. WDH shifts weight from the rear axle of the tow vehicle to the front axle of the tow vehicle. The tongue weight stays the same, but by maintaining proper load balance between the axles on the tow vehicle, steering and braking operates normally and the tow vehicle stays stable. WDH doesn’t change anything about the trailer’s characteristics relative to where the load in the trailer is being focused on the trailer’s suspension and tires.

What is true is what you describe about how Euro trailers are weight-balanced by design.

As to tires…it’s not just about weight. Please just be sure that you are using tires that the manufacturer approves of. That avoids any issues that could come up if you do have a problem.
