Reputable hunter sale barns on the east coast?

I wouldn’t use Chad Keenum, personally. I would be happy to tell you why via PM.

I’d also avoid a few other people around the Virginia area as well. Feel free to send me a PM if you are looking in Virginia so I can let you know what my own personal experience has been. I won’t speculate or gossip, but I’m happy to tell you only what has happened directly to us. If you don’t plan to look in VA, then there is no need for me to clutter up your inbox.[/QUOTE]

Thank you! I sent you a PM regarding where to look in Virginia.

Emil Spadone sells a lot of horses. If you decide to look at any of his, do a lot of research online. He isn’t entirely accurate in his descriptions of what the horses have done. I looked at one horse online that supposedly “always wins the hack”, but when I looked online in the USEF database, the horse sometimes won the hack. Last I checked in the dictionary, “always” and “sometimes” are not synonyms.

Just something to keep in mind with him, or any other seller for that matter.

This was a while ago. Hopefully since then he (or whoever else does his ads) is more careful.

If you’re willing to look across the border, you will get a LOT for your budget in Ontario thanks to the exchange rate.

I will definitely look into both farms. I really should take advantage of the exchange rate, especially since Ontario isn’t too far of a drive from me.

If you are going to consider Ontario, look at the Ontario Show Horses for Sale FB group, although winter isn’t the best timing for listings. Another Ontario barn is Kim Mervyn/Park Lane - she always has things in your price range, and posts them on her FB pages, but she’s already in Ocala for the winter, and not Ontario right now.

I would say call Chris Wherley and Chrissie Dewey at Walk the line. They have a website. I bought a 4 year from then 4.5 years ago for mid 5 figures. I still own him and he has tricolors from WEF to Capital Challenge to a hack win this year at Harrisburg. He has won in huge professional divisions and with me in the Adults and the Amateurs. More than anything he is exactly the horse they told me he was when I tried him. I told them first off that the most important thing I shop for is attitude and he has the best most amateur friendly attitude ever. I can not emphasize enough how much I appreciate Chris and Chrissie’s honesty and I randomly called them from an ad on BigEq Please pm me if you would like any more information. I have been riding and showing in the East Coast for almost 40 years and have opinions on some of the other people/places mentioned as well if you would like them. Buying a horse is always hard, part research and part leap of faith and luck but truly the more we amateurs stick together and support one another the more transparent the process will hopefully become.

She has a knack for putting people and the perfect horse together.

hi, try Ly-nard Hills, based in NC usually in Ocala for the winter, I believe they have quite a few young hunters ATM. If not, they have a vast network and will find somethign to suit yoru needs. Good luck!
