Rescue organiziations - if you had to pick one...

For those of you who asked…update on Helen here.

Anyone know what happened to the new halter that was donated for Helen? It seems that it never made it to Jonmouse to use for Helen.

I would donate to the one that is most in need at the time of the donation. I have donated to at least four this calendar year and am very happy with all four. All of the rescues mentioned in this thread are very deserving and could use contributions. I am thankful for all they do these poor horses.

Well, Helen desperately needs money. Is she at a 501c3 rescue now? Everyone who was so happy that this mare was "saved’ needs to try to help her now. Even if it is not a 501c3 rescue, I’m sure donations could be made to the vet(s) who will be delivering the foal and treating the mare’s eyes. (Is she “blind” or does she have uveitis? And need her eye(s) removed?)

I have decided to support TIER on a regular basis, both with $ and volunteer work.

I also have/will support CANTER CA several times per year.

I have/will continue to send $ to smaller rescues when a special need ( i.e. “Miracle”) arises.

Our adoption coordinator and I provide a lot of post-adoption support and question answering for our adopters. We also run an email chat list where adopters, foster homes, members can post questions and advice. Some of the trainers who participate in our Bluebonnet Horse Expo have offered reduced training rates for specific horses, and we currently have one trainer who is offering a discount on training for any horse adopted form BEHS.

This is not something we’re really promoting/developing (the training discounts). I need a volunteer who could be in charge of this and really further develop it…

No one asked about it on here. Not sure why you’d even bring it up…(except to try and pot stir).
That was answered in the thread you linked…

My choices would be -
CANTER
SKA
MidAtlantic
TB friends

A big part of the secret is to have your records and receipts cataloged and organized. Works wonders for your 1040 stuff, too!

They work with each horse to improve it’s chances of finding and keeping that forever home.

With all the talk of records, keeping the books UTD, and receiving reciepts, I cannot help but think this thread was started to stir the pot and slam some of the rescues. Why don’t we keep this thread positive and say where we would donate & leave it at that? This might bring some “new” rescues into the picture and end up being a positive thread. I’d hate to see it turn down a dark, negative road!

I’ll point my future donations to Gentle Giants or Bluebonnet.

Not until you mentioned it.

But books are the core of a not for profit, as they are for about any business, but more so on those who rely on outside money to operate.
Sure, there are people who don’t care much how the books look. As long as the cause feels good or the head talks a good game, bit to others it’s an absolute must.

And since a lot of people are lurking it is a bit of good adice to share, both for those with the money as for those working in the operations.

Day’s End for me, which also happens to be my local rescue. My son has volunteered there, and I have adopted two young ponies from them over the last 8 years or so. I know people involved with Gentle Giants and hear good things about them, too. I’ve also had positive experiences with Equine Rescue and Rehabilitation, Inc in MD, and Equine Welfare Society in VA.
