I asked for these for Christmas one year thinking to ride in them. They were such a pain in the rear to lace up that I returned them.
The problem with non-riding boots can be the sole.
Many boots designed for good ground traction have very aggressive soles. I tried a pair of Navy working uniform boots one day and rode for about 90 sec. and then quit. The sole was so aggressive that there was no way I could “drop” a stirrup. I actually needed help to get down. That’s a significant safety hazard.
As long as this risk (or other risks such as buckle placement, lacing style, etc.) is (are) managed I don’t see any reason why most “dismounted” boots can’t be used while mounted.
