Is Tryon also a State Park with public funding or is it privately owned and operated?
Ahhhh…guessing it’s private and answerable to themselves. Despite trying to operate that way, KHP was and is supposed to answer to tne state or at least include them in their plans to spend state funds, not lock them out of “family and friends” budget meetings or accept corporate sponsorships for select events that do little to defray daily operating costs…or increase them.
TIEC is definitely private but depends on all kinds of name sponsors for various events. My question was about earlier posters saying that having Rolex as a sponsor had hurt KHP in getting the 2018 WEG when TIEC also has Rolex as a major sponsor and that obviously didn’t prevent TIEC from getting the 2018 WEG.
Anyway sad to see that Rolex won’t be “Rolex” anymore. I gather that funding support for KHP has fallen off with the change in political administrations in Kentucky so hope this isn’t the start of a drip, drip, dripping decline.
And while horse community in the Tryon area is happy to have TIEC here and bringing new events to our area, the people I know do not want it to be at the expense of other venues, even our smaller longtime local ones, or other major venues like KHP.

Rolex will continue to be the “official timepiece” of the event through 2021. In addition, Rolex has a separate contract with the Kentucky Horse Park as the title sponsor of the stadium there through 2020. Rolex also will continue to sponsor the $350,000 Grand Slam of Eventing, awarded to the rider who wins the Kentucky Three Day Event and two English events, Burghley and Badminton, in the same year. The prize was most recently won in 2016 by German rider Michael Jung.
I wish people would read threads BEFORE posting.
Having a bad Monday I see.
New marketing tagline!!!
Come see eventing! Where horses try to walk on water!
I am of the opinion that they cannot call it 3Day Eventing. They can call it a weekend of 3 Days of Eventing.
In the spirit of trying to keep the park alive I just saw this fun event for kids posted.

“Keeneland is excited to partner with the Kentucky Horse Park for this event, to bring more families out to the park and to enrich their knowledge about Man o’ War and his significance to our industry,” said Kara Heissenbuttel, Keeneland’s director of employee and patron experience.

Idle Musing: Is EEI so wedded to the KHP that they would not consider offers to move the 4* if someone else were to make them a really good offer to host the event?
Maybe. The original donor families that spurred the Parks creation and the 4* course and steeplechase track still have relatives on the Park board and considerable influence in various other places. Lots of cousins in big, extended families.
