They slowed down considerably in the final section of the course.
Thanks! and thanks, amastrike.
anyone else think MJ ride looked less than great (for him)?
i know he was going for the time, but there was so much chasing, flapping arms and reins, a few frightening jumps…
maybe i am unfairly expecting perfection from him, but this round was IMO not pretty at all - effective, got it done, but not what i have come to expect his rounds to look like.
maybe he is a victim of his own success - anything less than perfect …

It looked to me that his horse was a bit behind his leg. I thought his tactful riding is what got them through with only 2 time faults and no jumping penalties. I think it would have been a problematic ride in other peoples’ hands. Just my thoughts.
…and KOC doesn’t miss an opportunity to reference ML & RF…and while we could be talking about Lynn & Donner who are on course.
So disappointed to see so little coverage of Elisa’s round. Only one I only really wanted to see.

That is unrealistic. He is human, it is slick out there. He got it done and very well and rode for time in the rain. If you want something to never have a bobble, eventing is not going to be a sport that will work. Show jumping you can be a lot more accurate because the footing is so much less erratic and the horses can see the questions asked earlier.
What they showed of Elisa’s ride was very nice!
JenJ,
I agree. The mare looked a tired and yeah, I thought a couple of those jumps were scary.

My thoughts exactly.

they just talked about Lynn for quite a bit

that makes sense.
I guess i have come to expect the appearance of a perfect hunter round across a 4* XC course from him.

Agreed, and conditions are only going to get worse. Checking radar, that rain will not let up most of the day, at times get heavier. Allison will have her worked cut out riding with such footing.
This seems to be a good course such even in these conditions, it does not look unsafe, just challenging.

Can we get Gina Miles back commentating? I love her comments, she’s very fair and educational.
Some tired looking horses out there later on the course. Not surprising. Crappy weather.

Anyone know how tall Doesn’t Play Fair is? He’s such a cute, talented little guy.
15.3 but I think Maya is almost 6’ tall making him look smaller.
Great round for Mikki and Ruben. I agree retiring was best but a part of me wants to see them finish.
Em

he is human???
OMG

Agree. The horse was sucking back a bit and he did what it took to get around the course safely and close to time. Not a lot of people would have been able to complete that ride.
Friends are there watching. Apparently the line-ups for the washrooms are ridiculous. Over an hour’s wait. How hard is it to install enough portapotties???!
I’m guessing it’s because it takes a girl 5 minutes to wiggle out of wet clothing. But still.
I found Lauren Keiffer’s ride on Monte Carlo to be the nicest ride of the day. MJ really had to ride and his mare looked tired. He pulled it out, beautifully.
FWIW, commentators typically talk more about the horse/rider combinations they know the best, and those that have scores competitive enough to place, and of course those that are being shown via live feed. Lynn and Donner are well known to KOC but they don’t have a very competitive score going into xc and they were shown very little via live feed.
Very different style of commentary now. Gina not Karen.
Buck’s arguing with his horse a lot!
