EN’s website says a rider was mandated to retire…anyone know who that was?
If that is not a reporting mistake, there were only 3 retired. I think all 5 Eliminations were due to falls.

Or maybe, as i re- read the report, it was one of the Es as the report says “4 E, 3 elected to retire”, maybe one of the Es was not a fall?

Auburn, I think there may be something to that.
I always notice where the reins are held. But I also think it might depend on the nature of the horse. IIRC, Buck held all three of his way down toward the buckle. Loose and free. But then again, his horses were rarin’ to go.

Props to you for 7 wearying hours out in the pouring rain.

Holding the reins close to minimize head movement is quite common as a way to hopefully minimize head bobbing. 'taint right. But I have seen it done.

Usually the ground jury is WAY aware and they don’t buy it and often will ask for a rejog because they notice it and are very aware of the tricks. Jogging on a loose rein is best, and I also have seen Buck practice this with his students.

How tall is Doesn’t Play Fair? He certainly looked shorter than 15.3. Is MB very tall?

Is there not any rule that addresses allowing freedom of the head, in the jog?
Well, sometimes give a few inches and they’ll drag you all over the place, trashing the geraniums to boot.

Thanks for volunteering!

Horses’ heights and breeding can be learned here by clicking on their numbers: http://startbox-real-time-scoring.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/leaderBoard.html

Auburn, thank you for volunteering! You are not only helping the riders, you are helping all of us who enjoy this event so much. I have done the standing on a road at Carolina. Fun Times.
The panel will ask for a rejog if they don’t like the way the horse is presented.

Still catching up… Can someone describe what happened with CR and Escot 6? I don’t have sound and the replay only shows her dismounted and leading Escot back to the stables. Is she okay?

There was one rider who the commentators said had crossed her path after a runout on the way to re-present. I forget who, though. She went on and did a couple of more fences before being stopped.

“Mandatory Retirement” is scoring-speak for “Horse Fall”. I think that was Marilyn Little.

According to the COTH commentary http://www.chronofhorse.com/article/it-happens-2016-rolex-kentucky-cross-country Colleen fell late in the course, but both OK.

Ahh I don’t know how I missed that, I guess the phrasing had me confused and I interpreted it to mean they were pulled up for something else

See, and I feel like LK is creeping up on him, if not in the dressage perfect, certainly XC. Her rounds were lovely to watch- smooth, accurate, consistent. Both her horses looked happy and fit.
I didn’t see Lauren on the gray, but her round on Veronica was wonderful. Veronica has a bit more step and jump than Jung’s mare, and they made it look easy.

A shame but I am so glad to hear she is okay

Who is Michael Jung?

Apart from the fact that he has a stable of about 20 horses and competes at the highest level of the three Olympic disciplines - and has a string of international twins too, many to mention?

Aspiring eventers should keep his ride in a folder - exemplary, forward, and his mare listens when asked, but has freedom at the same time.

She was not stopped, she was actually in the jog this morning. You get penalty points for crossing your path. The commenters were saying it was a shame as she had a very fast time XC and a good dressage score and the error knocked her down but not as far due to her previous score.

Eventing is an endurance test for the spectators as well … getting all wound up for the show jumping, now. :o

I understand that show jumping order of go is reverse standings. How do they deal with riders that are “back to back” with themselves in the standings?

They’ll ride one earlier (PDutty will take Mighty Nice first) and then another one in the normal standings.
