Thanks findeight. I’m so used to being criticized for doing things pony’s way instead of the “normal” way, that it’s a knee-jerk reaction to apologize for it/defend myself for it. But doing things his way has really made all the difference, and helped turn him from the broken little guy I bought, back into the pony I knew and loved when he was young before he ended up under a really not-good-for-him rider. It’s been a long almost 5 years, but our hard work has paid off in spades!
Wirt: both sets of romels I have are on the shorter side, because my pony is so bloody compact. All of his english reins are pony length, and the adjustable length gaming reins I have for lazy riding-in-a-halter days are on the shortest holes. Haha. The braided button-end hobbles are missing from the leather with ferrules romels, so I’ve used leather ties instead. The natural rawhide ones have the hobbles intact. I’ve always removed them and hung them on a high hook so they hang nice and straight, so glad to hear I’ve been doing it right! It seemed like common sense to preserve the integrity of the braid.
Thanks again, folks. I really appreciate the feedback!
