really very tragic and sad. I used to see him at horse shows all the time.
Holy cow.
I’ve seen him at horse shows for years and years. That is unreal. How sad.
So very sorry to hear this news. Condolences to his family and friends
Very sad news, my condolences to his loved ones.
I saw this on facebook this morning. Rode at a farm he trained at many years ago…so sad
Just horrible. I’m so sorry for his family and loved ones. Sending my jingles their way.
Over the years I would see Ross at horse shows - always a quick smile and, “Hello”. When he was a junior I remember him qualifying for the Medal and Maclay on different horses Ralph had in his stable. Always seemed like a worker and pleasant.
My thoughts and prayers are with him, his partner, and family.
How horrible! News said it was a sniper.
Why?!?
Very sad. And scary.
He was a staple at the shows.
My condolences to his family and friends.

Ex roommate being sought…
Agree w/ Wkg Htr above - sad AND scary.
Omg how horrible! Prayers for his family and friends. I hope the scum that did this is caught and justice is served
According to the last news reports, the suspect is a former friend and tenant who had been harassing Ross and his partner. I still can’t understand why some people feel such violence is necessary.
Brief story re: Ross
When I lived on Long Island years ago I trained briefly with Ross, but because I was an event rider and probably moving to Virginia we decided Ross couldn’t help me so for a few years I trained by myself and rode the unrecognized event circuit.
A year after we parted and I was still on LI I saw Ross at the Hampton classic, he walked up to me, nudged my ribs and said " I see you in the papers a lot, meaning equestrian papers. I said “you keep watching!” Ross laughed out loud and walked away. A year later I saw him again at the Classic and he said "I don’t see you in the papers as much. I said “I’m giving the competition a rest.” (Actually my horse had a serious injury). To which he burst out laughing and walked away.
My brief encounters with Him were always pleasant and punctuated with a sense of humor. May he cross the Rainbow Bridge and find peace in the meadow surrounded by horses.
My condolences to his partner, friends, and family. Such a senseless tragedy.
Yeah, that was definitely one thing about him: he ALWAYS offered a smile, a friendly greeting, and made everyone comfortable. He was a great guy!
This is a horrible shame. I’ve been following the news and articles, but didn’t even think to come over here until this morning (in my defense, I’ve been buried all week in formatting 345 pages of Wing History to Adobe and putting it on a disc to be dropped in the mail to my MAJCOM this morning…my brain isn’t functioning at full speed!). I just hope and pray they find the culprit, and I really, REALLY hope it wasn’t the deranged and angry former roommate. Or maybe I do? So the rest of the area can breathe in some modicum of safety still? I don’t know…I just want him to have justice.
So sorry, Ross. There was no reason you had to leave this life in the manner you did!
