Sabino to Sabino??...a problem?

The Balou line is very Splash and Sabino, and has a high % of producing color. Your friend stands a good chance at high color if the mare has decent white herself.

Atlantus looks to be the same - Splash and Sabino. I would love to see better pictures of his markings, as I wonder if there isn’t some DW in there as well.

Any thoughts on where the wild chrome comes from in the pedigrees?

littleum, you have it backwards - capital letters are the “presence”, lowercase is the absence. So, O/o IS Overo. o/o would not be overo (in your context).[/QUOTE]

My post references how overo was understood 20 years ago. It was believed there was a single Overo gene and that it was dominant recessive (o/o)

My post is accurate about the inaccuracy.

well, Balou certainly was helped by his sire Baloubet. The dam’s damsire had white as well - Domino. It once it comes through enough generations, the cumulative effect can increase, until you get stallions - Balou, Baloubet - who are high color producers.

Heartbreaker had enough white, contributed no doubt in part by Nimmerdor, though he was more minimal (which doesn’t mean a whole lot when it comes to black-based colors, it just gets more exciting in terms of “he’s got it” when you see more white on the black-based colors). His damsire, President/Titan, is another black based horse with white. So, it was another case most likely of the white ending up concentrating.

I gotcha!

Look at this fancy colt just born at Majestic Acres FL. His dam is Decadenz by Balta C’Zar and his sire is Counterclaim, our homozygous stallion who was also mentioned in this thread above.
We are thrilled with this pattern, and the healthy colt. The story of this is on another thread!
