That’s from an 18-month-old business card, but one of those methods at least should be current.

I haven’t read the whole thread, sorry if its been repeated.

I’ve been using Joe and Michele from Canterbury Outpost for years now. Joe loves wool saddles, BUT will fit a foam saddle if you want, but he just isn’t a fan of them. They travel so far, if you look at their facebook, they travel hours out.

Carmen from Bakers usually sub-contracts his work to Canterbury Outpost. Truly love Joe and Michele, they don’t gouge your wallet, they are genuine people and work really well with you. They can grab saddles from Carmen for you as well and bring them to you.

I haven’t worked with Nathan, but I am a Prestige Snob and he has been my go to person when asking questions about their saddles. Recently bought a Prestige Venus K dressage saddle from Sprucewood, they were the best priced for a brand new Prestige compared to Bahrs and Bakers. I’m now looking for my next Jump saddle and will purchase through them if a used one doesn’t come up.

Holly Barnett is an Equipe rep, good saddles, she’s very good at fitting tack, but don’t expect good customer service at all. She’s extremely pricey, but you get a lot of detail with her work. Wait times are months, and she never responds. I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews about her, personally customer service is key to me.

Carmen also is not my cup of tea. He pretty much told me I couldn’t afford his saddles… so that tells you his business. I would be extremely hesitant to do a photo only fitting session, there are so many details that can be missed from under the saddle. His shop is now running like a boutique, you MUST book an appointment in order to SEE the saddles. You can’t just go in and look on your own anymore, which some people prefer to do.

I have heard good things about Bahrs, never have used them myself.

2 thumbs up for Joe and Michele!

Jessica Stringer is the rep for Albion and she is very good.
I also like Liz from Bahr’s.
I have a student who bought a saddle through Carmen at Baker’s and we were not impressed with the service.

I’ve used Ken Doner (kd.saddlefit@gmail.com) and he was great. I’ve also heard good things about Canterbury and Bahrs. I also worked with Bahrs once my fitter gave me my horse’s measurements and told me what details to look for in a saddle and Bahrs was super helpful only giving me what I needed.

I’ll echo what a few have said and say that I was extremely disappointed with Baker’s. It’s a great store but I will not recommend anyone I know to look for a saddle there. Ymmv of course.

I know this is an old thread, buy does anyone know of current fitters in Southern Ontario?(Hamilton/Ancaster area)

I know Bahrs still does it. But I honestly find them over priced for saddles I feel are in poor condition.

Canterbury Outpost - Joe and Michele. Text (416) 529-4113.

I wouldn’t imagine they’re working now, as non-essential business (including barns) are closed, but you could at least contact them about future work.

I have used them several times, have always been happy, and they are reasonably priced. Many others at my barn use them and are also very happy.

Definitely recommend Joe at Canterbury Outpost! I had him out for a fitting in December and he was great to work with as well as having reasonable rates.

Neat to see a thread I started so long ago revived!

There are 3 I’d steer clear of. Not willing to publicly state, as my single experience isn’t enough bad enough to blast online, but I can whole heartedly recommend Wendy Good from Bruno Delgrange if you’re looking to drop the money on a brand new French saddle. If you want my “not recommend” list I’d be happy to PM that.

Years and years ago my sister made a mould of her horses back and shipped it from Winnipeg to Apple Saddlery in Ottawa. They tried saddles on the mould and send her a stubborn edelweiss that worked out amazing. Just an option.
