Saddle pad that you/horsey can't live without?

I have 4 of the double-back in trail pocket pads and love them!

According to PRI’s site, they are still available as an option. I sure hope they are not discontinued/planning to be!

These Kentucky numbers are delicious. I’m casually looking at locations to buy and notice a shop in Austria called Horse Queen. Sigh. I want to be Horse Queen.

This thread has been SO helpful. The way these things pop up in the saddle channel, like a wee tent? That wasn’t going on in h/j when I last rode. It’s taking a little getting used to.

I’m a big fan of the now-discontinued Back on Track/ThinLine Contender II pads. I have a pile of them for my older guy and I’m always looking out for any that might still be around. When those wear out I don’t know what I’ll do–they fit him perfectly with his saddle.

I really like the other BoT ones for my young horse in various colors, and I have some really pretty Schockemöhle Magic pads that work well for him, too.

I’ve tried Le Mieux because they come in so many wonderful colors, as well as the Arma knockoffs, but they are too short in the spine to work with my young horse’s halfpad. When he gets his own saddle I won’t need that, so maybe I can branch out!

Came here to say this! LOVE my Kentuckys! Also BoT for the winter. I’m currently using a Butet wool half pad that I really like.

I’m sorry, I don’t own a PE so can’t answer. I will say that the LeMieux sheepskin is not super thick. It’s cushiony, but compact. If that makes any sense.

I would KILL for a Rambo black/Whitney gold h/j saddle pad. I’d even settle for the navy. They’re sold out everywhere. A seller on eBay UK has them but doesn’t post to the US. Thinking of begging the seller in the name of the US/UK Special Relationship.

Thanks! That is helpful.

Edit: maybe I need to buy one for “research purposes” to compare ;).

For many, many years my favorite pad was the Contender II BOT/ThinLine 6 pocket shimmable pad. It was just about perfect (nothing is perfect) for putting on the various lesson horses I ride.

But when my pads started getting worn looking I went on line and they are no longer made, oh me, oh my.

So I have switched to the Fenwick Western pad (they are selling their remainders, no longer made, I bought extras) adding a ThinLine Countour pad for horses with sensitive backs, and using the ThinLine Trifecta pad on top of it for the horses who need shimming (I do not use the Contour pad with these horses).

The Fenwick Western pad has the far-infrared technology, and it really helps the horses who are iffy right behind the saddle, something the Contender II did not do. The horses I ride seem happy with this setup especially when I also put the BOT Exercise Sheet over their butts.

Nowadays I just want the saddle pad to have the far-infrared fabric. The horses sure seem to like it on their backs.

I clipped my Premiere Equine sheepskin pad (with my horse clippers ). I like the pads but dislike that there’s not a gap in the sheepskin along the withers/spine. So I just clipped out some of the fuzz, which seems to be working well.

Can anyone comment on the thickness of Equestrian Stockholm or PS of Sweden pads?

The LeMieux pads are a touch too thin (and small) for my horse’s dressage saddle. I have a Mattes pad with sheepskin under the panels that fits nicely so it might be best to just order more of those but I’m tempted to try ES or PSOS if they are relatively thick pads.

@lenapesadie ES is fairly thick. It’s not thick like a western pad buts it’s considerably thicker than LeMieux pads.

Thank you. That’s good to know!

@lenapesadie I’m not home right now but I had a few pads in my car, so I got photos for you :joy:

It’s dirty, but you get the idea

You are wonderful. Thank you! Yes I see what you mean about not western pad thick but considerably thicker than the LeMieux.

Western is my primary riding, but I use the basic Dover pads. I used to use my Tad Coffin half pad that came with my saddle but it would always sit to low/tight on the withers no matter what I did. So I sold it and bought a ThinLine Trifecta half pad instead. Love it!

I absolutely love the LeMieux saddle pads! Not only are they fashionable and trending, but they are super durable, comfortable, moisture wicking, and just amazing! :star_struck: They are made from bamboo and their texture is just WOW! The price might seem scary, but its worth it! I have a prosorb pad for my OTTB, and its practically a stylish insert pad! Definitely worth it, I have 5 pairs of LeMieux colors

Wouldn’t it be cool if horse people had a MakeupAlley type of review site where they could leave honest assessments of stuff they’ve bought? Some bloggers do it in a limited way, and much of what I’ve seen has the ring of truth, but imagine one really solid site giving the scoop.

Wait, isn’t that COTH?:grinning:

I would consider PSOS a thick pad. They’re pretty squashy and definitely thicker than LeMieux.
