Saddle sales help (or commiseration)

I’ve bought and sold a couple different ways:

Purchased a PJ Delgrange (like new) from eBay, but was very confident it would fit the horse it was being purchased for.

Purchased a Tad Coffin A5G2 from Horse Clicks - had to send one back as the panels were pretty beaten up. Second one was great…and sold it in the barn and then sold it for that person a few years later via Horse Clicks - no issues

Bought a low end, low priced Zaldi Star on eBay, sold it 10 years later via FB local group for a bit more than I had paid for it. That was a factor of the very low eBay price, though.

Just bought a CWD SEO1 from FB - but I was also very confident it would fit the horse because it’s the same that his owner has. No problems with the purchase.

All have been great purchases - including the PJ when the seller accidentally refunded my PayPal and we had to figure that out…

I’ve likewise had good luck selling miscellaneous tack items on eBay, I think the real risk for a seller these days is on things where the buyer would have reason to want to check the fit and try to make an end run around a “final sale/no trials” policy - all someone has to do is make even a ridiculous claim that the item wasn’t as described, and they will get a free opportunity to try the item and stick the seller with all the shipping costs if it doesn’t fit. So, for me personally, that’s going to be too much risk on a saddle with high shipping costs and risks of damage.

@RugBug glad to hear there is still some buying traffic on the FB groups, I’m probably going to list mine for a little while before deciding whether to consign, in case someone happens to be looking for that exact thing!

I agree that the risks of selling a saddle on eBay are too high. I would choose other options before I went that route.

The saddle I bought was listed on a personal page…I’m not sure it ever made it into a group. And it was forwarded to me by my lease horse’s owner because she knew I was shopping and that it was the same as hers. So, putting me into ‘FB buying traffic’ is probably overstating it.

@RugBug <sigh> that’s more consistent with what I’m seeing on FB, lol. But I suppose it is still worth a try for a little bit on FB while I sort out the consignment options!
