You probably shouldn’t do what I did which was fedex cashiers checks to a COTHer you had never met in real life to go vet, pay for, and pick up a horse for you. LOL! Obviously it worked out great and I still have the horse 17 years later.
As has been described here – a wire transfer cannot be reversed. A Paypal transaction can be reversed for cause, by Paypal based on their review of the transaction.
So from the seller’s side, of course they would prefer wire transfer. From the buyer’s side, Paypal can look like purchase insurance (for a fee of course).
The comments in this thread have been a great synopsis of how different people have handled these transactions. 
I’ve only used wire transfer in the past. I understand the reasons people here are suggesting using Paypal, but those same reasons are what would make me, if I were the seller, not accept it!
