safety stirrups-cage or breakaway?

I use the peacock stirrups on my English–I’ve heard the story about ripped anatomy when dismounting with them before, so I just remember to put that image in my head when dismounting, and jump clear. d;

For my western trail saddle, I just bought those cheap Cashel “cozy toes” stirrup covers–they work like tapaderos, so my foot won’t slide through and they also help prevent branches getting stuck in my stirrups. I worry about branches snagging on my peacock stirrups so I rarely take my English saddle for more than a shorter hack.

I have biothane cages on all of my stirrups both for safety and for comfort. I ride in running shoes 99% of the time- no need for boots/ heels

I’m using rid’up. They have a ski binding type mechanism so the stirrup breaks away at the top. I had previously used safe-on’s but read in H&H about 2 people whose safe-ons did not break away when they fell. And the arm is indeed very difficult to dislodge unless you twist it in a particular way. These are the safest, IMHO but the arm is so mobile it opens from a little foot pressure. https://www.saferiding.it/en/
I gave them to my daughter when she came off and her freejumps did not release her foot- the leather came off the saddle instead.
