Salt year round?

My vet recommended iodized, even though the horses are fed well-balanced feed. But I didn’t consult with the nutritionist on this. I’ve always fed iodized salt without really thinking about it, to be honest.

How much and what kind of feed does your horse get?

Either way, you’re probably going to be fine. Iodine is more commonly deficient in the diet than high. But there are circumstances where you could easily create an excess, like a lot of feed + a kelp based supplement + iodized salt.

I might have to reconsider which I feed, as I recently switched brands of ration balancer and just now realized there is no data anywhere online about the iodine content of my current ration balancer. I don’t know if that means it doesn’t supply any or if it just hasn’t been quantified by anyone.
