Samshield Helmet vs. GPA
I love fitting people into Samshields because we can switch out the padding to make it comfortable. Unlike other helmets you can also buy new padding when it gets too flat from use.
This is what I was told when I purchased my helmet. However, I have since tried to purchase an extra padded liner separately and have not been able to.

I also wonder if it might be a hassle to try to buy a new liner, because I have found the Samshield sizing to not be consistent–I have two Samshield helmets that are the same numerical size, but the helmet shells and the liners are different sizes, i.e., I can switch the liners but it totally changes the sizing of each helmet.

Where did you purchase it? We carry extra for sale – sometimes we need to order it from Samshield though.

I was told when I bought mine that the shells are S, M, and L and the liners are what make them the specific sizes.

jewll27, I was told the same thing, but perhaps that is only true for the higher end versions, not the matte version? My two shells are different sizes and have different sized liners.

Kalele, I got it from the Hadfields mobile unit and to be fair, I haven’t asked them yet about getting another liner, I’ve asked a couple other places that sell Samshield helmets tho. It’s good to hear that it is possible, thank you.

2foals, just a thought, are you a 6 7/8/55? Dover’s size chart says that you can use either a small or a medium helmet for that, so maybe you do have two different shells?

My tack store also sells the liners separately, they’re also willing to switch between the premium and normal liners to aid in fit or if you don’t like the gap in front. Super helpful!

I have the matte one, so I dunno. I just know I love mine. I will probably stay on team samshield unless something else comes about for large, oval heads.

Do samshield helmets come with the liner or do you have to purchase it? Im loking at buying the miss shied. I have a circular head and it fit mine super well.

I have had a SpeedAir, a OneK and now a matte Samshield. The SpeedAir, which I got half price in a sale, was the coolest but it didn’t fit my head particularly well – too round and gave me headaches because it pinched in front. I ruined it landing on my head in a fall and bought the OneK. six months later I fell on my head again – ugh. So I was near a Dover for work and actually went in and tried everything. Despite my better judgment spending so much on a helmet, I bought the Samshield. I knew the instant I switched back and forth from each model it was worth the money because it is so comfortable and doesn’t pinch my head at all.

The one thing that isn’t great on the Samshield is that for me the chin strap is actually too short. I have a round face despite my oval head, and the Velcro doesn’t go together when the chin strap is comfortable. I added a hair tie to it to keep it from curling out but for that much $$ the chin strap ought to fit! Though I see someone else thinks it is too long so perhaps I just need a skinnier face! haha

I don’t like the look of a GPA it’s too much and Samshield’s fit my tiny oval head perfectly! Also love the removable liners bc they always get to crushed and no longer fit well with other helmets.

I am not sure what’s changed but I no longer fit Samshield helmets (or Gpas, Charles Owens, Keps, OneK!) sigh…although I do fit the extremely cheap Ovations and the hard to find (in Calgary) Antares…so make sure you try all helmets on as they don’t fit the same, and some heads (like mine) are hard to fit!

I’m very pleased with my GPA helmet. It fits my head nicely.

Bumping up this zombie thread because I’m having the same issue with nothing seeming to fit. I went from GPA to a One K, and the One K doesn’t fit right, it squishes my forehead (it’s the right size, and I even tried going up to the next size liner). I’ve had it for 6 months and I’m ready to give up on it. The GPA Easy doesn’t fit. CO has never fit me. The Samshield doesn’t fit. And I don’t have $600 for another Speed Air Evolution, which was my last helmet and fit me perfectly. What’s my next move?? A One K in the long oval? I see that Dover now has a couple CO models in “round fit” – has anyone tried them?? I’d like to be able to spend less than $400 if humanly possible, but I’m beginning to wonder if I shouldn’t just suck it up and get another Speed Air.

I just tried on some Samshields, and nothing fit right. The premium liner was a little better, but still felt unstable and wide. I’m usually a CO head but have been on the hunt for something cooler with a wide brim to replace my old SP8 which isn’t all that cool and isn’t as comfortable as some of the other COs. I was at Dover and tried on some others as well.

To my wallet’s dismay, the only thing that fits like it’s made for my head is the KASK helmets. I’ve heard a lot of bad reviews about the neck support thingie breaking. But given how much wear and tear riding has put on my neck, I thought this might be a good piece to have (also in light of some of the comments on the GPA harness here–GPA also does not fit me although the newer ones aren’t as terrible a fit as they used to be). But man, I sure don’t want to spend $600 on a helmet that is likely to have a key piece of the harness snap off. But really, the KASK seemed to be the best fit for my oval head of any of them…even better than my COs. Felt very secure. But man, I thought their cycling helmets were pricey!

Anyway, sorry this is OT, but maybe it’ll help someone else with a fit problem.
