When receiving training on the BOT MIPS helmets a couple of years ago, I was told that it had taken longer to come up with a version of MIPS in equestrian helmets that would meet all of the standards and other requirements. My understanding is that the MIPS portion of the helmet had to be incorporated into the helmet’s liner in a different way than in helmets for other sports, thus the delay.
As a trained helmet fitter, working with many different brands of helmets, I found that Samshield helmets really don’t fit many people well—they often pinch at the temples because of their shell design, which narrows at a point on the shell that is farther back than on most other helmets. With the hunter hair requirements (don’t get me started) many ladies who absolutely had to have a Samshield (or, even worse, whose trainers insisted on it) had to go up a size or two just to get the helmet on.
