Santa Cruz Biotechnology -animal abusers :(
Since these violations occurred over a few years, that means ownership was okay with it. Someone concerned with animal welfare would have tightened up the ship so to speak after the first one or two violations. And to agree to pay a 3.5 million dollar fine and shutting down that portion of their business vs fighting the accusations in court speaks volumes about knowing they have no valid excuse for the infractions and probably put profit over prioritizing animal welfare. I just wonder how much went on that inspectors never saw.

Owning a bunch of show horses does not mean someone cares about animal welfare at all.
could be true, but you are assuming a lot of things about what everything means. We really don’t know for sure what really happened.

Sounds like they were not only not abiding by the very strict welfare regulations required for any research animals, but flat not caring for them properly at all at the end.

Not easy to get around that, when you are caught at it, as they were, after several years of warnings to do better, if what some say is right.

And yet the company consented to pay a record fine ($3.5 million) and surrender their license.

Just a sampling of APHIS findings on inspections:
+employees not trained in basic husbandry, handling, use of anesthetics.
+Food not “wholesome, palatable and free from contamination and of sufficient quantity”
+multiple missing IACUC protocols
+inadequate veterinary care and supervision
+failure to follow recommendations on diagnostic/treatment plans for animals observed to be in poor health, leading to further deterioration (we’re talking a period of months here)

This incidence is particularly disgusting to me:

“Respondent failed to provide adequate veterinary care to a goat (#12267) that had sustained a rattlesnake bite on April 28, 2012, and following initial treatment, the goat’s condition did not improve, and the goat was not given any further treatment until its death. specifically, the goat developed a visibly swollen jaw and chest and draining lesion, and experienced a 23% weight loss (24 pounds) between April 28 and May 9, 2012. By APHIS’s inspection on May 24, 2012, the goat was observed to be unable or unwilling to close its mouth, which, in conjunction with the goat’s other visible conditions, indicated that the goat was unable to eat normally. On June 10, 2012, the goat was observed to have labored breathing, but was not euthanized until June 11, 2012.”

It goes on–multiple complaints after multiple APHIS inspections–not animal rights activists–people who do this for a job.

Read the APHIS complaints for yourself.

I read the APHIS complaint and oh boy, if I were a researcher who used them I’d be having a heart attack about now. That is describing a terribly badly run facility. If they manage to feed goats how do they do the paperwork? Ack.

I don’t believe everything I read/hear online.
You can see the inspection records and letters on the site yourself. Are you saying the APHIS / USDA is lying?

These are the copies of the letters the company received.

you can go do your own due diligence and can even request copies of the documents under the FOIA

I received their catalog, but after this, I would not order anything from them. Not because of the poor animal treatment, But how could I trust their products? From a quality standpoint!

Well, I was going to use them the next time I needed to order natural Vit E, since they have the higher dosage than Elevate. Anyone know of any other sources of non-synthetic Vit E at more than 1000IU per serving?
