Savannah Cat (Serval x House cat) anyone w/experience?

I know, lol. They’re full brothers and I really only wanted the marble one…but the breeder gave us a discount if we bought both. Little did I know what trouble makers they would be! (I say that endearingly because I really do love them…but they really are the biggest trouble makers ever! ;))

Yeah Kory is enough - can’t imagine two - especially because his favorite thing is to stalk you or the other cats or even the dogs… so you never know when he going to leap out and grab your feet and his claws are seriously SHARP…

Then the wild leaping around the kitchen - we have 12ft ceilings in the kitchen and very tall cabinets he jumps from the floor to the TOP - he is crazy agile - like he is made of springs.

These are just a few of his tricks so your house must be really interesting!!

LOL!!!

If I ever need to find a home for my copper cinnamon colored girl, I know who to ask!

My sister and her husband have a Savannah. He has never sprayed but they have had him since he was a kitten and had to bottle feed him for a couple of weeks. They also live in a very small NY apartment so he has always been confined to a small 1 bedroom apartment and that is all he has ever known.

The cat can be destructive. He has destroyed multiple shower curtains. He loves to climb them and shred them. He has also destroyed a stuffed chair. He clawed it from the bottom up…it was quite the job. He also destroyed a scratching post in 3 days. If you do not lock him out of the bathroom while you are showering he will jump in. He also will put his head under the kitchen faucet when it is turned on.

What I am getting at is that these cats can be very destructive. Some of the stuff they do is cute and charming but in my opinion the shredding of furniture overrides the cuteness. They still have the cat because of the situation of how they got him. They love that cat no matter what he does.
First of all, Savannahs are illegal in NYC…second…they are not the type of cat to keep locked up in a small apartment…they have quite a bit of energy and need to play and run…they are highly intelligent and loving, but they needed the right owner and home…

Glad to hear its working out… I think each cat is going to be an individual and have individual needs, issues etc…

I currently have a two year old Bengal… and yes I know its not the same as an F1/F2 as he is an F7… However I find it interesting how many folks have differing opinions on the Bengals…

We had issues with him spraying in the beginning (yes he is neutered) which took lots of patience and litter boxes to get sorted out but it is now sorted out…

He is NOT very vocal at all unless he wants to eat… he only wants attention when he wants it so he sounds more like a Savannah then some of the other descriptions of Bengals… He is NOT a cuddly cat…

He is wild - loves to climb and jump and ambush… He has is own (old) sofa that he can scratch until his heart is content and therefore does not bother anything else…

So far (fingers crossed) we have had no health issues but he is entirely an indoor cat.

I also have Malinois (dogs) which are simliar in terms of they are not for everyone…

Malinois/Bengals/Savannah’s etc… are not for the general populous and it takes a special home for them - but in the right hands the are lovely creatures each of them and mine have brought many riches to my life…

Here is a few pics of my boy:

Also just for fun we also have an oriental shorthair - THIS IS THE BEST CAT EVER!!! His name is Sterling but we call him the Pink Panther…

OP - nothing but great wishes for your brother and his new kitty!
I would like to say that both your cats are freaking great !!! The oriental looks like a wise master

Any new doggie pics?

Love that analogy of Sterling - he does look like a wise master… if anyone wants a family cat the Oriental Shorthairs are the way to go… I have never had a more friendly, tolerant cat…

No new Malinois pics… my kids are turning 11 this year!! They are siblings… I will try and dig some up…

So did you join this forum just to post that?

Ooooooo Alagirl do you have a picture?

My Bengals actually aren’t super acrobatic (they’re both five…I think they’ve mellowed a lot as they’ve aged, although they’re both always willing to play) but they are all up in my biz ALL THE TIME. They also scratch the couch (despite having a house full of scratching implements), like to open doors, like to get on the counter, like to watch me go to the bathroom (that one is weird), I have one who sprays (he’s the top cat, so he has to assert his authority) and man do the TALK. Fortunately I LOVE talking animals! They just have a lot of purrsonality.

She is a mess and a half. This was taken the first day she showed up at my house (YES, she was a ‘stray’!!!)

It took her a year to get close to DH…and she LOVES her tuna…

Glad to hear the kitty is doing well, and your brother is enjoying him. Best of luck to all, and thanks for the updates!!
