I spoke to people that know him. He was not a full time dentist. Definitely didn’t work typical hours and I believe had some family money. Nice rider and that gray horse of his was pretty incredible.

He absolutely was a dentist but not working the typical career path for that profession.

eta. I really looked into full time professionals who rode at a high level. Absolutely there are a few out there. But unfortunately for me, I didn’t have family money or a family business…and most were in that bucket. I found almost none that were super successful in their professional careers on the typical tract for that profession. They all had special circumstances. I do think there are more options now with technology but in the end…there are only so many hours in the day and most professional careers that pay well…take up a lot of those hours. But if you can do with less sleep…you can make it work. I’m at the top of my career. I left the office early (only 8 hours in the office). Rode one horse, worked at my farm for a couple of hours (turning out night turn outs, dragging ring etc) and about to start working again. I’ll be lucky to get 4-5 hours of sleep tonight…I like 7-8 hours. I wish I was one of those people who did fine on less sleep.
