Schneider's blanket sale - good bargains. But is their claim true? And how about the fit? Questions.

I actually have a Smartpak midweight T/O - it fit pretty well but I got the high neck and it rubbed the bottom 1/4, 1/3 of her mane out; it took 6 months to grow it back :frowning:

I consigned it this fall.

Have you tried a wug? Does that slide around on her?

Same design as Rambo, so I’m thinking it would (also, high neck will rub mane out :frowning: )

The stuff is a different fit than the regular rambos. I’ve had other high neck blankets rub the mane, but the wug doesn’t on my girls. I think the high neck keeps it from turning so much.

Well, no. There’s the regular Rambo cut, the wug cut, and the cut that includes a built in neck rug.

Even in the Rambo cut, there’s the leg arches and the original. The way they attach at the chest is different.

So there are a bunch of “Rambo” cuts.

And just because one high neck cut rubbed doesn’t mean all high neck cuts will rub.

Well, I’ve only had the “regular” Rambo and the Rambo with the neck. I did notice that the chest attachment on some of the other styles is higher, with crossed snaps? (I assume that’s what you were referring to?); my concern is that if I invest the $$ in one and it swims around on her OR rubs her mane - which I won’t know until I’ve had the blanket on her for awhile - I won’t be able to return it, and will have to consign it.

I know the styles that tend to stay put better on her; right now I’m dealing with chest rubs (otherwise the blanket is very stable and fits great), so the shoulder guard was the solution.

Rambos have been PERFECT for my other mare, who is shaped like “a normal horse.”

Based on some of the above testimonials (and the reviews), I may give the Premier Equine blankets a try. They seem to be high quality, well designed, and reasonably priced when on sale (even adjusting for dollars/pounds and shipping) - and the customer service was very good based on my previous purchase.

Thanks to everyone for the input!

I will not buy Schneiders blankets. The fit is terrible on every horse I’ve tried a blanket on, always gaping around the neck and shoulders while somehow being tight on the withers and rubbing chests (yes they are the correct size). I’ve also had them leak from the very beginning. IMO buying Rambo is WELL worth the money. My last Rambo remained waterproof for 9 years and I’m convinced that the only reason it lost its waterproofing is because I switched blanket cleaners.

Happily, my Schneiders blanket came ahead of schedule and just as ordered. I soaked the front in Chew Stop (that stuff could double as bear spray!) And got it on him just in time for the low, low temperatures. It fits him well and waterproof is not an issue as he is brought inside during heavy rain. So I am pleased.

I have 2 of their lower end waterproof turnouts. One of them is 5 years old (I have never re-waterproofed it) and the other I bought this season for a new horse. Standing out in pouring rain and bringing the horses in, underneath they are good and dry, except maybe their chest. I love their blankets and can’t really justify spending a ton on other brands since I’ve been so happy with them. I just ordered 2 of their stable blankets for $40 each because I could use them and the price is fabulous.

Regarding the Wug and mane rubbing, I have a horse with a long mane and thicker more upright neck conformation, and he does not get rubbed. I often keep his mane braided, but there are no issues on his “natural days” with rubbing. His regular Rambo does rub slightly on his withers/lower mane, but he spends far more time in the Wug.
