Screw-in studs-how many wears do you get?

I’m another fan of small borium road studs in the heels of any shod horse. If mine hunted and evented UL I’d go screw in, but mine are all LL so I’m happy with drive in. My friend had screw ins for a while and resorted to filling the threads with silacone sealant before screwing in the stud to keep them in. Worked well btw. But far too much work for my taste. I think a little slipping here and there keeps us all cautious and if it’s that greasy I won’t jump unless it’s entirely unavoidable.

Not to discourage you from studs, but there is a lot to be said for learning to ride the conditions vs learning to cork for them. After all, hunts are not Badminton.

My horse is not very big, but he’s not especially sure-footed.

For keeping the studs in on a long muddy hunt I’ve had good use using liquid thread glue, the name of which is escaping me at the moment but you can get it at the auto supply store - something something Blue it’s called. (The glue comes in different strengths. The blue you can get the studs out at the end of the day. There’s another color or two with more grip, but that might end in tears…
