We now clip my dog every 3 weeks to make the baths easier (he needs them up to 3x a week in prime allergy season). I use Wahl clippers I had for my horse. The first few times he looked like Edward Scissorhands had trimmed him, but I’ve now figured it out! Much more economical than going to the groomer, and his vet agrees that the shorter hair has drastically helped with allergies.
