Secretariat Uncashed Win Ticket 1973

After the Finish Line, www.afterthefinishline.org, received an in-kind donation of a SECRETARIAT race ticket to help raise funds for our Thoroughbred funding non-profit. It is a $2.00 uncashed win ticket on SECRETARIAT dated June 30, 1973. SECRETARIAT raced at Arlington Park where he won the Chicago Handicap.

Does anyone know what value we can place on this ticket for a fundraiser? We may put it in our silent auction at our “Stand Up for Horses” comedy fundraiser at the IMPROV in Los Angeles.

You can see the ticket on After the Finish Line’s Facebook Fan page, http://www.facebook.com/pages/After-the-Finish-Line/113665201978354?ref=ts. Scroll down to see it.

Thanks!

Good luck, what an awesome donation!

Thank you! I’m hoping there will be interest with the upcoming Secretariat movie. How is Grady?

Wow! Lucky dog that gets this ticket! I wish I could add it to my 2 Zenyatta win tkts.

Nice item!

It might make it more interesting to have a whole Secretariat “set” thing - maybe offer it with a Secretariat Breyer (if you can find one) and one of the books on him (“the horse that god built” comes immediately to mind). Or maybe someone has one of those photos of his belmont win to add to the mix.

You might want to call Claiborne Farm to see if they want to bid. Also you might want to let the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation know. They also might want to send a bid. You could also call Bill Cooke at the Kentucky Horse Park Museum.

Secretariat win tix (and their value, according to an expert) are mentioned in this 2004 article about potential Smarty Jones Belmont win tix:

Of course the prices mentioned are from 2004, so market up/downswings could certainly have occurred in the interim… but probably still good for a basic frame of reference…

Dawn, Grady is doing great and just as fresh as ever! He’s loving the cool temps in the mornings, same for me!

All great ideas…I’ll let you know how it turns out.

A couple from Colorado sent me the ticket. The husband wrote that he and his wife are in their 80’s and wanted to give back to the Thoroughbreds they loved so much. They are on a fixed income so they sent the ticket as a donation. I’ll send him these links.

I have my Seatlle Slew win ticket somewhere from his Derby. . .I just happened to be at Hialeah when he raced the first time in his 3 year old year and followed him ever since. . .
