My favorite pit bull was a little foster dog. I worked at a barn where the BO fostered for the SPCA. She had 11 dogs, but they all were treated extremely well. They had a truly huge yard with a water feature that was more like a small beach and pool for the dogs. We could have the dogs out loose in the barn with my 2 dogs as well, no fights or any problems ever. It was the best job - lol.

Anyhoo, Red was a sweet little girl. Very very shy, but no aggression at all. It was sweet to see her go from sitting in a corner of a stall with her head tucked down “hiding” in plain sight. She always wanted to be with/near me. To running and playing with all the other dogs. Her favorite thing to do was to bury her bones in the stalls as I was cleaning them. Due to her breed she was a permanent foster and well loved.

Friends of mine picked up a pit as their first dog from local animal control. Brought him home to a 3yr old kid and another one on the way.

THE BEST dog ever imaginable, super eager to please, mellow, obedient, on/off leash, around kids, cats, dogs, farm critters, etc. The only thing he did not like is being locked up in a kennel away from his new PERFECT for him family - he got to understand that he was not going anywhere and was there to stay and was fine in kennel. Housebroken from the get go.

I can not imagine what would make his previous owner part with such a gem of a dog! I knew pits in general were nice, but he was above and beyond my expectations.

King, your King Kong is gorgeous! and looks as big of a goof as Booker is with that silly pit bull grin while he is running!

Cane is a beauty too, what a serious face he has!

Thanks for sharing!!

Kong’s got that loose skin from the mastiff side and it’s just hilarious…he makes the best derp faces when he’s running around and playing. And of course it’s great for smooshing his face and giving kisses

I love this!

For me it is about educating people. I was at an event with Petunia and a lady with an autistic son came by looking at the dogs. Petunia is so calm around people (I taught her early on, sit to be petted) that I brought her out for her son, who was scared of dogs, to pet. We also had a bunch of rowdy puppies that day which was overwhelming to the child. But Petunia being the good dog she is sat and let him pet her all he wanted. The mom asked me what kind of dog she was (Petunia is so obviously a APBT not even funny) so that let me know that the woman was pretty ignorant of dogs. As soon as I said pit bull, she started drawing away, even though Petunia had done nothing wrong. Made me sad, not that Petunia would have been a great fit for their family but that they believed all the hype without believing their own real world experience with the dog.

Pit bulls will kill you!!!..with their big strong happy wagging tails! Love those silly pitty smiles.[/QUOTE]

Seriously!! Those tails are lethal! Have had bruises on my legs from them beating me haha

I rescued a pit bull bitch, named her Buttercup, and she is the sweetest dog on the planet. I recently acquired a puppy, and she and the puppy play together all the time. She’ll lie on the ground and let him crawl all over her, biting and tugging, but she is down on his level to play.

She’s also a great vermin dog.

Just take a look at the people breeding them - rising them - training them - there are bad actors out there, dogs that spend their lives chained up, harassed, not socialised. There are councillors who make petty laws damning all pits, (instead of their owners). It’s surprising how many of them do come out of these situations sane.

In local ads, there are more pit bulls for sale than any other breed, Rotweilers, too.

We have Bull Terriers, also a bully breed. Like a lot of dogs, these dogs have an affinity for old people and children…quite amazing that they know to be playful with a ten-year old boy, and gentle as a lamb with a baby and comforting to a senior.

Not that we would leave any dog with a young child, but our dogs are perfectly safe.

I’ve got a couple but this one is my favorite:

My female pit mix was 6-12 months old at the time of the event. She loved laying in the shade of the back yard watching the neighbor’s grandkids play. Everyday shortly after 5pm, kids’ mom would show up to pick them, then my dog would give up her position and come inside. One day, the dad showed up. Dog sat up. Dad snuck up behind his daughter and snatched her up into the air. (Typical dad joking around behaviour.) Girl screamed, like girls do. My dog took off across the yard, me chasing her. She was halfway over the fence when I caught her and yelled out to the kid to tell my dog she was okay. Kid says “I’m okay” and dog immediately relaxes. Dad is looking bewildered, and I calmly explain that my dog watches his kids everyday and is used to the mom picking them up. He kind of shook his head a little and then looked at my dog and said “Thank you.”

The next time he showed up, he made sure my dog knew he was there and who he was before making his daughter squeal. She never cared after that first time. I honestly think she thought he was hurting that little girl and she was going to stop it.

A funny one involving the same dog. She was 8 years old at this time. She is my farm dog. I have a goose. We were walking out through the field, when suddenly the goose attacked. That goose blindsided my dog, wrapped his wings around her, rolled her several times, and then was on top with the scruff of her neck in his beak shaking it. I stood there dumbfounded, I mean how do you break up a goose on dog fight? It only lasted maybe a minute before he let go and walked off very proud of himself. My dog came slinking over to me shaking. Now when she hears him honking, she goes the opposite way!

She is now 10 years old and I still have people telling me they will take her if I can’t keep her. She is an amazing dog, and I know she is a one-in-a-million type.

I have many more stories involving this dog and my 7 year old papered female.

foxtrot I hear you about breeding and how pits are treated over and over. Just this week local city is looking for 3 guys caught on camera shooting and dumping either a pregnant bitch or had puppies very recently for the look of her in pictures. Blue pit, they apparently had no more use for her so shot her dead and dumped her body. Over and over again, pit bulls are tortured, bred (Petunia my foster had obviously been used for breeding as well) fought, starved, beaten, killed, abandoned and yet many of them come out of their hard lives still with shining hearts and love for humans. Hard to understand really.

I do think change is coming though about BSLs, so many countries and cities are realizing that they do not help, it has to be the humans that are targeted not the breed of dogs. Spay neuter laws hopefully will help (near local city just went into effect July 1, spay neuter law), education about dogs, outreach to the public rather than just PTS the thousands each year, make the owners be responsible!

Logical, wow, that is a big move for such a young dog! Protective instincts and then some. Dogs are just so smart sometimes. For me with APBT it is that connection with humans that they have that is just so special. A good friend of mine has an English Cocker, very different type of breed than I am used to. She has to work hard to develop that relationship with her dog because it does not come naturally to this sporting breed. I told her one day how Petunia would leave her food to get loving and it floored her, her Cocker is all about food and do not get in her way when it is around.

I know not all pit bulls are fabulous dogs (I had one euthanized because of being human aggressive to some, would not take that chance with such a dog) and some do need to be euthanized for everyones sake, but most given a chance are great dogs with such a desire to be with their humans. They are a powerful breed that needs training and socializing and time for those who did not have a great start in life. It is worth it though to give these dogs a chance and I am glad things are changing for the type/breed now. Not long ago over 300 dogs were seized in AL and over 200 in TN, times before they would all have been PTS, now those dogs have a chance to prove they can be adopted out and live normal lives thanks to the Victory dogs and the people and rescue (Best Friends) that took a chance on these dogs.

I will admit that when DH initially wanted to bring Pete home instead of letting AC get him, I was a little concerned. I mean, we knew NOTHING about this dog, except a complete idiot woman had him. After about an hour, I realized that Pete had an IQ of about 100 points more than his previous owner! He is so smart and really wants to be around people…especially women. He’s a ladies man for sure.

Have to share an asshat story though…we live right next to my parents. We built a house on their 150 acre farm. I had Pete down there last week and they had a guy over helping bale. I was talking to him and mentioned that I had an appointment to get Pete neutered. He was appalled! He said, “Don’t do that…you could stud him out!!! He’s a blue!”

Ugh. He couldn’t understand why I didn’t want to contribute to the pitbull population by breeding my unpapered, perhaps not even purebred pitbull. But he’s BLUE…

Seriously? What’s wrong with people? LOL

In a couple weeks it will be two years since I got a desperate plea from the rescue I work with to foster a PB puppy until they could find a spot for her. I’d been casually looking and fostering for over a year to add a second dog but none had worked out so far, and I really didn’t want a puppy. Everything about her was wrong (female, too big, too young, same color as my other dog, wrong breed) so I figured we wouldn’t get attached. That idea went down the drain in the first 48 hours and she has turned out to be one of the best dogs I’ve ever had.

Here’s a video taken under my computer table while I was filling out the application to adopt her. Other dog is a Basset mix but probably has a little Pit, too. They still do the lazy wrestling thing every day but now the older dog instigates because she would rather chill.

Here she is full grown with her real best friend. Someone had just knocked on the door and she was torn between patrolling the house or nudging the cat for more licks.

this is a feel good story about a pitty  they are such a wonderful breed of dog!

One of my dogs is a pit mix and she is the sweetest dog I have ever met. She loves and loves. I have a friend who has one as his service dog (PTSD).

Pibbles were a long time nanny dog.

I do believe pit bulls can be excellent service dogs.

Here is a program that rescues/trains them to be service dogs from shelters.
