Shipping saddle pads

I am cleaning out a ton of my extra tack on eBay, and up next is my extensive collection of saddle pads. My problem is that saddle pads are expensive to ship, typically costing around $13, which is sometimes more than the actual saddle pad sells for. Anybody have any suggestions on how to ship saddle pads cheaper, or is just kind of the way it is due to how bulky they are?

I’ve taken dressage pads, folded them into a heavy plastic bag and sucked the air out with a vacuum like on the infomercials. Then I could fit it in a well taped priority legal envelope.

try “Parcel Post Select”.
When Parcel Post Select is purchased online, it includes free tracking.
Length plus girth for Parcel Post Select is 84 inches max.

looks like about $5.00

Maybe try selling them in lots of 3 or 4, not sure that would help with the cost. For pads that aren’t worth that much, when you factor eBay fees, shipping etc it might be worth it just to donate them and get the tax credit for charitable donation.

Just sell them locally. Craigslist and Facebook are good selling sources.

I have had zero interest in them locally. I can barely give them away at local tack sales, and they are all quality brands like PRI, Eous, etc. This is kind of my last ditch effort before I do actually give them away. I’m a bit of a saddle pad addict, and have spent a small fortune on pads that haven’t seen much use… :ambivalence:

I think I will probably end up selling them as a lot. Good idea with the vacuum sealed bag, I might have to try that.

I don’t know what you’re looking at but that figure looks WAY low for anytime I’ve ever shipped saddle pads parcel select

Try giving them away on Craigslist. Just have the people come pick therm up.

I don’t think anything ships for $5 any more.

I sell on ebay full time. Depending on the weight, a single pad can go first class (if under a pound) for under 5.00 anywhere in the USA if you print you label online.

Over 1 but under 2 lbs can often be smooshed into a priority mail flat rate legal envelope or sent regular priority for 6.50-8.50 depending on zone.

As far as what to ship them in, NEVER use a box, just adds weight. Poly mailing bags are great and come big enough, or you can cheap out your own with thick contractors yard waste bags.

Feel free to pm me and i will help if I can- and I would love to see what color PRI pads you have, I <3 them .

I cut and tape two of these together to make a big one

Or cut one of these to fit.

oh and NEVER take a package to the counter- always print online through ebay labels- way way cheaper

But you only get the eBay labels (and reducing shipping charge) if you sell on eBay. And the eBay/paypal fees well exceed the small reduction in the USPS shipping charges :frowning:

I just shipped a bridle this morning in a mailer and it weighed 1 lb 7 oz. Unless we’re talking baby pads or very thin pads, I doubt a pad is going to under a pound. I used to buy/sell a LOT on eBay and regular size, regular padding saddle pads don’t ship priority for $5, even with the shipping subsidy :frowning:
