Just “hugs” from me. And what everyone else already said.
I’m so very sorry. You are doing the right thing, regardless of how hard it hurts to do it. May the wonderful memories eventually outweigh your grief.
We are all supporting you.
How wonderful that you got to be the last chaper of her life.
I am so sorry, sending hugs to you.
I am terribly sorry, I’ve followed this all along. I’m so glad you got her back to watch over her at this time.
You gave your horse a very happy ending and that is the epitome of being a loving owner. I loved knowing you got her back and made her last bit maybe the best of her life. Good on you and sending you lots of love tomorrow.
OP, I’m so glad you both had this second chance to be together. And while it was short it was splendid Hugs to you
ps yes, get an auction horse and may I suggest watching a video from the Clever Cowgirl about the old, auction mare Pearl.
I’m so sorry. I know it’s not the ending you wanted, but you gave her a wonderful last year+ of her life. She was safe and loved. No horse can ask for more than that.
Thinking of you today OP.
So sorry. You were a wonderful owner.
Thanks everyone your kindness has been so appriciated. I have a sign on my cubicle wall that says “DO IT FOR DOBBINS” but there’s just one dobbin now- I ugly cried.
I told her breeders. They sent along a few photos from when she was a young 2 year old. I’ll post them here in a second.
Oh that second photo is incredible! The colors and her nose in the flowers
What a gorgeous girl. She was so lucky to have someone that loved her enough to get her back and give her great care as well as a dignified end.
Lovely photos. This is how you should remember her.
Don’t feel guilty. You did everything you could for her in her last 15. As someone upthread pointed out, think what these months would have been like for her without you.
You may not remember Willem (not Wilhelm), but he was wise and kind, and indeed would have agreed that “This it be right.”
Sorry for your lost.
Know that you did all you could.
{HUGS}
Thx, noted and corrected…that was, like 10 years ago wasn’t it?
More like 20! A check of the archives shows he died in 2003. He was one of the best COTH contributors ever, no?
