Maybe I read it wrong. I thought the implication was she was looking for somewhere for the horse to be used/leased. Probably my error.
I did this a few years ago, got back my heart horse (my first horse, got her at 3 when I was 17) that I sold two years prior believing sheād be happier where she was going than she would be just sitting in a field while I rehabbed another guy that needed me more. They sold her on after a year (asking WAY more than they bought her for), and about 6 months or so after that new owner contacted me about issues they were having (one of my requirements to sell her in the first place was that if she went anywhere else they HAD to make sure new owner had all of my contact info and be okay with me keeping track of where she is just in case).
Long story short, mare had on and off mystery lameness and was also becoming downright dangerous to ride and handle, rearing up and bolting and bucking and straight up running over people, so new owner sold her back to me for a dollar. Soon as she realized she was going home with me, her entire demeanor changed. Even our vet (who had been seeing her for about ten years) commented on the change in her after i got her back. We had some not inexpensive vet bills and long slow rehab, but she has been the happiest Iāve EVER seen her since then. Sheās 17 now and is back to jumping and dressage-ing better than ever, but I would have been so happy to have her back even if she had to completely retire (which is what I was planning on when I got her back). Iām so much happier with her back in my life, as well.
So I hope so much that you find a good place and can enjoy just loving on your girl, no matter what her physical condition ends up being! And if it comes down to making THAT decision, so much better for someone that truly loves her to make it.
Consider also asking your vet for boarding recommendations, they know which barns provide good care and which donāt. Also ask for references from the prospective barn. Ask for ones from current and former boarders, as well as their veterinarian. Of course, be prepared to offer your own references. And realize that usually, you get what you pay for.
Just found this thread, AND I LOVE IT!
OP, youāre not married to this guy. Your budget is none of his beeswax. You do you.
I wasnt clear- not looking for a place to lease her to, just one for me to board at
Did you find a barn?
The saga continues. Apparently her current home doesnāt believe in vaccines, so sheās unvaccinated, which has made finding board more difficult. I think Iāve found a place- we are getting her shots immediately, and she will be kept away from everyone in quarantine. Iām dying to know how sheās doing! I just want to talk to her, brush her, love on her. I miss her so much! Thursday cant come soon enough.
edit: the barn is my coachās neighbour so I can see her whenever I come ride my lease horse too
She got on the trailer this morning at 8am. Sheāll get to me tomorrow midday.
Needs groceries in my opinion. Very is coming out today, and then possibly another vet later on.
It was so wonderful to see her
Glad to see she arrived safely!
Aww congrats! Sheās gorgeous! I hope you have many years left together
Sheās adorable! Yahoo!!!
OMG a chestnut Overo, really looks like my horse! If their metabolism is at all.similar she will plump up fast, but the flip side is she likely was really mistreated to get even this thin. I mean a TB can get like this in a week, but not a Paint like mine. So glad you have her, what a sweetie.
I donāt know what vaxx she needs immediately but Iād try to space them out if possible, especially the optional ones. Just so she doesnāt get a reaction.
Looks like they didnāt wear out any brushes on her eitherā¦good bet they didnāt believe in worming or dental work either.
But she looks fairly healthy here, of course we like them a bit plumper but thats likely going resolve itself with time. Love to see an update picture in 30 days.
One thing IWD ASAP is get a fecal sample. Many vets will let you take a kit to collect and bring the sample in. Just feeding her up wastes money if sheās sharing it with a worm load, its not expensive.
Toes look a bit long, may be more comfortable after a trim.
Can see why you wanted her back and bet she bounces back with just a few inexpensive tweaks. Look forward to updates.
Sheās lovely! She does need some weight, but sheās a real stunner.
She looks so happy in those photos. Did she recognize you as she came off the trailer?
Welcome home, pretty girl! Yes, sheās rough, but I was fearing much worse. Agree on canāt wait for the 30 day update pic. Her eye is just lovely!
Sheās really cute. That is some window dressing. Big smiles for you.
Thanks everyone! I canāt wait to get her back to her beautiful self. I donāt know if she recognized me- Iām a different weight, different hairā¦ I tried to talk to her lots because I figure my voice hasnāt changed much. She happily ate her nice hay and didnāt seem to drop anything as she ate so that was good.
