Shoulder impingement

Hard to believe, but I can’t remember how long the right shoulder’s tear took to heal. It was back in April 2000. I kept using it after the first several days to a week–at the very beginning, I couldn’t even drive because I drive a stick shift, but I kept working and got back into doing things pretty fast in spite of pain. I sold the horse that I flew off (I was way overhorsed), but resumed biking fairly soon after the crash (maybe a week?). Seems to me I still had my road bike then, so I would have been riding a bike with drop handlebars. I remember that hurting a lot.

As for the left one, it never really healed (I’m talking about years) until I made that weird move and something slipped back in place. I slept on my back for many years because of that shoulder, and now I can finally sleep on either side again. It was late last year that it finally became useable. I did the first injury at least ten years ago. My rheumatologist at the time told me he was pretty sure that rotator cuff was torn as well, but I didn’t bother getting an MRI or seeing an orthopedist since I knew I wouldn’t have the surgery. Any surgery really messes with my rheumatoid arthritis, and usually will cause more problems than it solves.

Had an impingement that was more like a gradual onset/overuse kind of thing. Waited way to long for it to “just go away”. Finally got a physical therapy referral and
started that and it resolved really quickly. Strongly would encourage PT that probably goes double if you have surgery.

Well of course you should be evaluated in person by qualified professionals. But that said, go check out

@Mukluk hahahahaha I’ve already checked them out…been following them for years!

Hope you feel super better super soon!!!

Got my official results, good news, no rotator cuff tears, it’s a supraspinatus shoulder impingement along with shoulder bursitis. They are giving me a cortisone injection tomorrow morning to bring down the bursitis then I’m heading to some physio with the hope I’ll be back in the saddle in about 2 to 3 weeks! All my reconstruction looks good…although I did get a lecture about always wearing gloves at the barn to avoid any cuts as that could also set off lymphedema in that arm, due to lymph nodes being taken (they said any and all injuries can also set it off and so far I’ve avoided it!) …the orthopedist I saw was the same dr that fixed and plated my elbow 15 years ago when he was just out of residency so that was pretty funny! He didn’t remember me at first until we we talked and I showed him I still have the plate that he had to remove as my keychain, and let him know I’ve had no issues at all on that arm.

That’s good news!

that sounds promising!!!. I agree about being a bit over protective of local infection as you have escaped lymphedema so far, you need to take care.

Rock you PT and stay proactive on future events as you have heard from us all Shoulder injuries are a bitch.

Ypu are fortunate to have what sounds like a great team on your side

@hoopoe i have been very fortunate with all my drs…I credit my family dr with always setting me up initially with a great specialist, who in turn seem to work with great specialists! We are definitely fortunate here in Calgary!
