Show Jumping

Somebody, please! What does IRM stand for (on the live leaderboard)? Driving me nuts!!

I think going right in the middle (5th) for the team final is a good spot for the USA.

I think the US did well considering the level of competition. I have to admit I am routing for Sweden, but also hoping the US team acquits itself well. We shall see!

Well done everyone!
I hope the horses and riders that fell will be OK, though no doubt they will be sore.

I was not able to watch the whole thing, but I noticed that when Darragh Kenny went in to help his student who fell, he was not dressed in riding clothes at that time. Was he not on the list to show today?

Shane’s horse lost a shoe at the start, the other 2 from Ireland were withdrawn after he was eliminated.

All In especially deserves a gold medal!

I just love the jumps. They are so creative.

I also love the tradition of the first jump on the first day of Show Jumping is one from the last Olympics—may be the actual one or at least a reproduction—and the last jump on tomorrow’s course should be a tribute to Paris. (Paris is next, isn’t it?)

I hope Tokyo doesn’t send the Sumo wrestler :grimacing:.

This course had the flamenco jump which would also be a tribute to Rio in the middle of the course, but I don’t know how that fits in to the tradition.

Thanks. I knew that happened. I guess I’m surprised he changed his clothes that fast! Hopefully Teddy will bounce back with no issues.

True. Excellent rides for all. Important to note that McLain’s horse had not jumped around in that ring yet unlike Laura’s and Jessie’s.

Well, actually all the horses have been in the ring, they had a training class before the individual competition
the course and jumps are new to everyone, however.

The samba(?) is likely a nod to the 2016 Olympics, but Brazil is also home to the largest Japanese diaspora in the world.

Hopefully Amsterdam is ok. He looked ouchie walking out.

Someone asked about betting on show jumping, and it is a thing. I wonder if any where in the U.S. is actually accepting show jumping bets?

Since they legalized sports betting on everything in the U.S., I’ve noticed on the leaderboards for PGA golf, that they have the scores, and then the betting odds next to it.

I’m just glad that there were only what looked like minor falls, the poor Israeli competitor looked kind of rocky leaving the stadium though. I thought his horse might have a small limp too, (not that I’m that great as detecting lameness), so I hope he’s OK too.

Stella is injured - pretty sure that’s why Benny did 2 Nations Cup appearances in the observation events while all the other horses did 1.

However, she was remarkably consistent on him this entire year, and I probably would have put her on the team over Laura.

I forgot about that pair - they have been consistent and Benny’s Legacy is one of my favorites to watch.

The jump is actually a Flamenco themed jump, in a nod to the course designer’s country - Spain.

I am catching the replays and am seriously scratching my head as to why he kept pressing on. Glad they both seemed okay.

Blame the IOC for the no drop score.
