medal ceremony … horses and riders … beautiful to watch
All told, I think all three US equestrian disciplines have had an excellent Olympics!
What a lovely gesture by our riders to put their flowers down so they could applaud the Swedish winners. Good sportmanship.
Correction to my post above - John said it was Sweden’s first Gold since 1924. I am so thrilled for them - they were just amazing!
“Bruce Springsteen and Patty Scailfa, parents of Olympic Silver medalist equestrian Jessica Springsteen and well known musicians…”
Just sayin’, it would be a nice change.
Is there a journalist alive who can resist working Bruce’s song titles into the headline?
nice that John only mentioned it once
It was inevitable when your parents are such big celebrities but now Jessie is a celebrity too! Its hard enough to be the rookie Olympian on the team but she also had the added pressure of being Bruce Springsteen’s daughter, but she handled it well putting down a clear round when it was needed most.
Didn’t they say he is only 11? If so, he may show up in Paris! Although he has certainly earned early retirement.
Never mind I was wrong I think he is 15.
All In so deserved to have a gold medal! ( I mean, the team did but that horse throughout TWO Olympics! )
Congratulations to Sweden for a very well-deserved win after a top performance throughout the competition. And congratulations to USA for a job well done. Congratulations also to Belgium for their Bronze.
My immediate thought on the competition: 10 teams qualified from an initial 20. How many then actually bothered to complete out of those ten? I’ve genuinely lost count. Once a single horse was injured, or accumulated so many faults that any chance of a medal vanished, several teams just gave up. Or two horses resulting in piles of faults and the team pulling the final horse and also not bothering to complete the competition.
The riders are, quite rightly and wisely, protecting their horses from needless jumping over a big course in difficult conditions. Good for them!! Does it work for the Olympics or for the FEI, with the stated aims of greater audience understanding and encouraging more flags to compete, I don’t think so.
Hopefully now people consider her to have paid her dues
It seems the US strategy was pretty successful even though it was not apparent to the rest of us at the beginning. Good riding and congrats to Sweden!
I feel dumb asking this question, but here it goes: does the chef d’equipe typically travel with the team for the Olympics?
I don’t think I saw Robert Ridland once—though due to the masks, I wouldn’t have spotted Kent were it not for John Kyle pointing him out. It only crossed my mind because we kept seeing Nick Skelton up on the kiss and cry when the U.S. riders were in the ring (which makes perfect sense given his connections to the team).
He’s there. I saw him in photos.
Sounds like some truly outstanding sport today. I’m glad that the Swedes won just because they were so consistently incredible all week, but it sounds like a fantastic jump-off. Well done to them all.
A-Ha “Take On Me” would have been spot-on appropriate!
WOW!
That was Olympic worthy, what a finish!
All were great!
