Showjumping Round 2: Sunday am
To me…I thought that he would have jumped, albiet crooked and from a bad bad spot and there was no way in heck he was going to get through all three jumps in that combo from that intro to it. I thought she pulled him up due to his arguments and a bad spot coming in to a very tough triple combo. No way would I have jumped into it like that either. So I have a hard time calling it a refusal or a run out. Did anyone else see that?
Yes, I explained my take on it earlier right when it happened.

I was confused about the double Whitakers too, lol.

LOVE seeing SJ on network tv middle of the day on a weekend!!! Yay for us!

Hmmm, so can he jump having sit this one out? Seems like that would be unfair, being a rested horse.
I would think that takes him out of the competition.
He can compete for the team, but not the individual. A team is not required to put 4 horses up. For example in a regular Nations Cup (where the riders aren’t trying for individual results) if the first 3 went clear, they could very easily decide to not jump the 4th and save it for the next round.

Later screen showed the top 8 teams advancing… which actually translates into 9 teams since AUS and GER are tied at 8th with 20 pts. (I saw - and was confused too - the earlier screen with no “Q” by GER)

Is it me or are the US commentators chatter hounds? I swear that woman talks so much it’s driving me crazy!

Ok, now watching on NBC, is it me, or does Laura Kraut fold really weird? She looked like she is coming back on him, very strange looking.
Now, yes I know I am sitting here, she is there, rides better than I ever hope to, I am just asking!!

Cedric looks like he has a very hard jump to stay with. I don’t think she looks like that on every horse.

I wondered if it could be the horse. One reason I asked, I hvae a student who looks like that in the air and here horse is very hard to stay with.

You’re just used to watching the silent live feed. Yes, she talks a lot, but she’s trying to explain it to people who have never sat on a horse.

OMG I’m from the U.S. but I think I want either Eric or Ian to win individual Gold…I can’t believe myself:lol::lol:
Except Michael Whittaker’s Portofino was WD days ago and was replaced by Nick Skelton on Russel. John Whittaker rode Peppermill in the qualifying round, then WD today.
That’s why I amended my post to say “Ooops, this is about Michael…”
All are qualified, but the Chef has to pick which 3 can go forward if 4 are qualified, but he could pick the 4th ranking one if he chooses to do so - in our case, I’m betting Beezie is an automatic go for the finals over Cedic and Will’s horse even though they rank higher.
Yes, technically he could do that. But if he did, the team/USEF would probably be looking at an arbitration for interfering with the prospective economic gain of the owner and the rider that comes from being able to say your horse was in the Olympic individual finals.

It’s one thing to put one rider over another based on historical performance and who the chef thinks will do best when looking at the team competition, but for the indivdual medals it is almost impossible not to let the top scoring horses go on. The owners and riders will demand that if they are ahead in this competition, regardless of history, they’ve earned the right to go to the final and compete for the medals.

Online schedule…

Monday: 4:15-7:45AM PDT for the Final round of team jumping, team medals; third qualifier for individual jumping.

And Thursday, 4:15-8:45AM PDT for rounds A and B of final individual jumping competition: medals for the individual competitors.

For Dressage:

On Tuesday, 4:15-8:00AM PDT individual dressage final: Grand Prix Freestyle, medals…

I agree with that–I doubt very much GM would go the alternate “star” route…but stranger things HAVE happened!!!

No, it’s not you–they are…that woman drives me nuts, too.

That’s why I watch online–blissfully silent except for the sound effects from horse & rider–as it should be!

Melanie said he was shaking his head as though he had something in his ear. He was holding one to the side after the line.

“That woman” is Melanie Smith-Taylor, US Olympic medalist in SJ. I wish the guy wouldn’t chatter on over her. She knows what’s going on.

Medalist or not–doesn’t make her the best commentator…sure she “knows what’s going on”–personally, I would rather watch than listen, so I mute her out.

Just me and my opinion.

I know who she is TYVM but she kept taking way too much during the rounds and kept repeating herself over and over. You can talk through the course without talking though the ENTIRE course.

Anyway, it was good coverage and it was on the HD channels. Cannot wait unti tomorrow.

great! I thought they were spectacular!

The TV version showed Authentic just really bothered by something as he turned to that triple - looked like he didn’t even see the fence until it was too late.
