I had an abdominal ultrasound and a gastroscope in Januray. The ultrasound was normal. One very small superficial grade one ulcer, which we treated treated for an additional week then went to 3/4 tube of gastrogard, 1/2 tube then down to 1/4 tube which I am keeping him on.
He he shedded out to a beautiful dapple chestnut and is looking heathy! The only thing is he’s prone to being overweight. One day in May after the farrier he had increased digital pulses but did not have laminitis. We did bloodwork which showed higher Glucose. Did a week of previcox then two weeks later complete blood panel, insulin levels and ACTH were all within normal limits. The internal medince specialist says insulin resistance is still possible and advises low sugar hay and controlled weight with a slow feeder. I have one a slow feeder but I am going to order one with smaller holes. What’s the ideal size for a slow feeder? His selenium levels are good but I am thinking about magnesium and vitamin E. I have a low sugar orchard/Timothy/brome. It’s very nice grass hay. I also have orchard alfalfa. I still give him some of that but not as much since he has not actually been diagnosed with insulin resistance .
