Sidesaddle Riders and Downton Abbey
I know women rode sidesaddle as a matter of course for a long time, but I just don’t know how they manage it without just tipping over backwards.
Right Shoulder Back.

One thing I did have to relearn was my auto response to one rein halt with the left rein. You can spin yourself off over the right shoulder. Otherwise those saddles are way more secure than an astride saddle.

So glad to see I am not the only person who thinks of saddle seat saddles every time I here miss Lane Fox mentioned on Downton Abbey.

I do know if that particular maker is still making saddles, but at one time a “Lane Fox” saddle was the brand to have.:)
Me too. I was so glad to read SmartAlex’s post. It was driving me crazy trying to think of why Lane-Fox sounded so familiar! I never rode saddle seat, but used to watch them at shows a lot when I was growing up.
