If you don’t overfeed grain urinary issues are rare. i’ve never had alfalfa be an issue in my bucks. You can also add ammonium chloride supplement to the daily ration as a safeguard for about $12.00 for a 298 day supply. I would be more concerned about the horse and goat getting along and the safety of the goat. Not all horses do well with goats.
Some horses do fine alone and if you have horses right next door who are close your new one may be fine.

Vet & shoer bills aside, going from 2 to 3 - horse, pony, mini - really hasn’t increased my costs overall.

You’ll spend more on vet and repair bills when your youngster crashes the fence/frets himself into a colic/develops a raft of behavioral problems than you would going the common sense route and providing a companion.
