Small-hole nets: Make horse's neck sore?

We stopped using a net for my older gelding when he started to get stiff/sore in the neck. It solved the problem and he is fine again. We do suspect some neck arthritis though, other horses in the barn use a net with no problems.

I use nets daily with no problems. I have NN. I will occasionally feed loose hay, but it usually blows away in the wind ! I so have a couple 1 flake NN that go on the ground. The horses eat from the hanging ones first though, I don’t know why !

I feed out of NN and some on the ground. My horses always check the nets first.

Ok, you Porta-Grazer people - which model do you have? I would like to order one, as my gelding is currently eating from a NN but he attacks the net violently, which can’t be that good for him.[/QUOTE]

I have a standard for my TW Horse and the small ones for my miniatures. The little ones won’t hold enough hay for a full sized horse overnight and the minis can’t reach over the top of the standard size. I haven’t seen the new corner feeder model.

I have the corner model and it seems to hold plenty of hay. My gelding is getting a mix of a grass hay and some O&A right now and he never really finishes to the bottom of the grass hay before I add more.

For Porta-Grazer, I have the XL version for my two horses. I did the 3.5" holes and those are working well for my hay/horses.

Thanks for the info, y’all.
