Smallest Tow Vehicle

Thank you… Natalie. I love the Bockmann, but for 20K for a 2 horse trailer… the better fly! Just kidding… they are beautiful. I will look around on Ebay. BTW I have not gotten my second horse yet, I am leaning towards Icelandic’s so I know he/she will be on the small side. also, I have no where to park two vehicles… I’ll figure it out… the car hunt starts and the Trailer is at the shop for Spring check up. When you go to the trailer dealer you get trailer envy and start looking around… Thanks again everyone… food for thought here… and thanks for all your suggestions… It is a good group with lots of support.

Second the Touareg. I have a 2014 diesel (gas engine is rated to tow the same). I don’t even feel the trailer with 1 horse. Rated to tow 7200 lb. My trailer is 2300 lb.

I tow with a Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 with the tow package ( rated to tow 7200 lb)
I have an 1800 lb 2 horse straight load Featherlite, no tack room. I usually only have one horse and have to go up and down Hills / mountains. It works fine, plenty of towing power and plenty of stopping power. I’m not sure I would want to go long distance with it but it’s great locally.
I would love a Euro trailer if I could afford it.
I did a lot of research and have to agree that the JGC V8 is the best bang for the buck.

Oy, I hear you. I just purchased an F450 and its first two trips were with the two horse trailer. A little embarrassing overkill BUT I’ll never have to worry about the big trailer pushing the truck down a steep grade or through a sudden light change (or over an inconsiderate driver).

Of course, its a working truck and I have to move hay, get a ton of feed, haul 6 horses, etc.

Also, its pretty.

I bought a brenderup 9 years ago. Any vehicle I have had since will tow it. In the meantime, I have changed horses and tow vehicles several times. This is one purchase I have no regrets about.

These euro trailers maintain their value. Might be worth a look for the freedom it gives you.

I also haul with a VW Touareg attached to a Brenderup and this setup works beautifully for me. I did a lot of research on tow vehicles before I purchased and it has the largest towing capacity of any mid-size SUV. It is also a fun, normal-sized car to drive around town.

I think Maple Lane has a used Big Master that just became available. I just bought a new portax and I am so sad this wasn’t there for me :frowning:

It might be overkill for your small horses, but I bet that will only help resale honestly.

I will be using my 2015 F-150 as my occasional tow vehicle (have a 2500lb 16ft steel stock trailer and will be hauling one horse for the most part, sometimes two). Most trips will be an hour roundtrip, but I have a diesel truck at my disposal for longer hauls. Eventually I’ll trade my F150 in for a bigger vehicle, but that’s a future plan.
