SmartGut Ultra vs. Purina Outlast

Yes please, and thank you!

Here is the link, I also have it as a PDF but it’s too large to attach here. https://beva.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/eve.12559

It was very successful for my horse, his diet beforehand was incredibly strict to keep him comfortable and he required several medications to stay that way. Now he’s off all the hind gut meds and is just on a Platinum Balance for the pro/pre-biotics. He was actually a fine weight beforehand but gained weight (and shine/bloom!) quite quickly afterwards, so he’s on a little bit of a fat kid diet nowadays. We do pick his hay carefully and when I find something that works I try to get as much as possible so he only has to change hay when absolutely necessary–I’m currently trying to buy enough of the current batch we have to last him hopefully til spring, we’ll see if I can get it done–but he was a pretty severe case and is a bit of a hot house flower.

@Dutchmare433 That is very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

You’re welcome! It’s pretty neat and really, compared to most thing horse related, it was inexpensive.

Thank you so much for sharing!

I’ve used Outlast for about a year for the same reason – stressy type of guy, but never confirmed ulcers. I work for a large animal practice and they have used it with good results as well (especially for hospitalized patients) which is why I’ve kept using it. Then I saw that Triple Crown Balancer Gold has the same/similar ingredients built in and bonus (!) soy free! So I switched him to that for his meals (with soaked alfalfa cubes and renew gold) and only use Outlast as a snack with soaked alfalfa pellets and chia seeds prior to our rides. So his day off he doesn’t get it. He is very fit, happy in his work and I love his bloom. The vet today (not there for him) mentioned how great he looked!
