Smartpak: Are they really downsizing?

Let this be a heads up for others - my USEF discount was removed by Smartpak for my autoship supplements this month. I am currently talking with a CS rep about the issue.

I noticed that the price increased but assumed it was because a supplement went up in price - not that they removed the USEF discount!

Thank you for this post.

I was shocked recently when I tried to use it and my chats kept timing out. I thought it was just me.

It used to be so great and such an easy way to communicate with Smartpak.

(I did eventually get in touch with someone. But it felt like a real uphill battle with the limited hours all their communication avenues now have and the chat not working well even during those hours.)

I could never get anyone on it.

I’m currently using the text communication. It’s working fine and has reasonable wait times for responses.

CS rep is claiming that the USEF discount was applied, but it’s not listed on the invoice.

I actually just called them last week. I got a very helpful CS Rep on the phone with no wait time and my order (with customization) was placed in under 5 minutes.

*I needed to reset my password, and was not receiving the reset link, so I just called.

I don’t think so because I heard this last year before all the tariff talks. They were not at KY3DE in 2024, either, for this reason. I was disappointed, because I usually buy some piece of tack and a shirt when I go. They’ve been there only promoting their supplements the past two events.

I used to shop there in Boston but I feel them focusing on supplements would be better in the long run.

Thinking of this thread today/ last night when I by chance noticed SP doing ā€œdeal daysā€ with 30% off different categories of their own products (apparel and footwear yesterday, therapy today). Seems a good way to clearance out inventory on hand.

And for anyone wondering, the ā€œdeal daysā€ specifically say that the PERKS or USEF membership discounts cannot be used with the deal.

Nothing to do with the tarrifs, they were bought out by Covetus and are shifting to a drug/supplement only company. I also spoke with them at KY. They said the same thing in 2024 which was the first year they only brought a showcase of supplements to KY.

I finally got the chance to stop in to the Greenhawk store and thought it was pretty nice. I thought their selection of things in the horse care section was pretty good and to me, better than my local Dover. Plus, in the bargain section I scored a nice Lemieux saddle pad for $26 bucks! Sad, but I was super excited about that! :joy:

They told me that at K3DE and a rep just told me on the phone (was making returns) and she was explaining why the lack of sizes.

I’ve worked with the Chewy Equine team and was excited they got to taste eventing at Kentucky. They are excited to be here, and I hope will continue to support our sport (eventing) through sponsorship. I purchased my Buckeye feed from them for years.

Very true. But at my last job, Dick’s Sporting Goods would give us a $25 charge back penalty for pallets that FELL OVER during shipment.

Shortage or OVERSHIPMENT on the load was 10% of the PO. You are reading that correctly. If we sent more than ordered, they kept the extra product AND charged a 10% penalty on the entire original order.

Versus a flat $25 if every box on the truck was off the pallet.

I looked for Smartpak sups in my local Dover store and didn’t see any.

A bit OT, but the Dover store downsized, by about one third. Their tent sale was a huge disappointment. Usually there’s quite a few rows of boxes filled with all sorts of odds and ends; this sale had hardly anything. Gone were the aisles of blanket and sheets stocked in the store.

Any chance you’re in Dallas since the tent sale was this past weekend? I don’t even bother going anymore and the only time I go into the store is if I need to return something I purchased online.

Since covid I feel like the tent sales have been disappointing. Not sure if we’re talking about the same Dover but the Crofton Dover shrunk by a third in the last year or two, it feels a little more cramped now and less like the destination it used to.

I have SP ultimate blankets and fly sheets with some damage, instead of holding out another season I guess I’ll put in for my replacements now. I wonder the technicalities of the 10 yr warranty if they stop making those items

The NJ Dover has reduced in SQ footage by about 50% as of earlier this year. The tent sales had been very good up until this most recent one (last weekend) which had very few bargain basement deals. I think Dover had all locations have tent sales on the same weekend, I don’t know if that had been the standard practice previously and if that impacted how much inventory was at each location.

They used to be different weekends and the bargain bin stuff partially came from HQ returns so the bins would travel around to at least a couple different stores to be picked over. My insider no longer works at Dover so I don’t get the scoop anymore on why it stopped.

What?! Did they do construction on the space? Did something else go into the ā€œother half?ā€

I’ve found that the inventory at my local Dover store isn’t what it used to be. I don’t usually go to the tent sales but did go to the last one. I picked up a pair of practically new Tredstep paddock boots (lace up) for $20 bucks…score!
