I agree with cleaning it daily when you groom. You can use sheath cleaner to do it as well as to clean the mare’s dock. ( A mare in season needs her dock cleaned daily. I use a washcloth with shealth cleaner and water.) It’s something you learn with your first mare if you read all the horse books as a child. Same as with cleaning up a gelding. Except now with the internet I guess a lot of people do not read books on horsecare.
I clean my pony’s udder whenever I groom her. Mostly 5 days a week, if my health permits it, 6 days. I try to not have her go a long weekend, 'cause Monday morning it’s a titch gross! XD
