Smith-Worthington Saddles
I have a Beaufort that was built for a very broad backed TB mare. She was prone to be sore backed, so saddle fit and panel condition was very important. The SW people were super to work with.

After one refit, the panels were perfect, and the saddle remains my very favorite. In spite of the fact it is way too wide for my any of my current horses, I keep it in hopes of being able to use it again.

I sprung for the buffalo. It is thick, soft and grippy from the start-no break in at all.

As I am a shameless tack snob, I hope to be able to order another SW saddle that will fit my current stable of ponies. The HDR is a blow to my hard won reputation.

If you can swing it at all, don’t hesitate to get a Smith Worthington.
You obviously need to shop for a new horse to fit your saddle. Duh.

Well, I’m satisfied with the beasts I’m feeding right now.

I admit, I want (crave, lust for) the SW monoflap. Which would cost nearly twice what I paid for both above mentioned beasts combined.

Sorry OP, don’t mean to hijack.

I bought a SW Heidi last year from them. I wanted a Stoneleigh, but the only one they had left in my size was a weird color. Cory ended up texting me a bunch of different options that would fit my guy instead on the Stoneleigh and we settled on the Heidi. It is absolutely lovely and has broken in very nicely with some Higher Standards. It’s not crazy soft calfskin, but it’s very comfortable and superbly built. It’s a nicer and better fitting saddle than I would have bought off the rack anywhere else. It also cost significantly less than something comparable off the rack. I really can’t say enough good things about the craftsmanship and customer service. They’re an absolute dream to work with even from 2000 miles away!

No you will be fine having it refit… I have an SW SbarW and the tree was set XXwide for a Holstiner/Welsh Hony that I owned. When I sold him I sent it to Smith Worthington and had the tree and panels readjusted to a wide tree and it is great.

GreyDes-a local fitter with lots of experience told me the down sizing would be so extreme that the tree might be damaged. I have two ponies now. Not only are they smaller than the mare the saddle was for originally, they are shaped very differently.

Thanks for the thought, though, and I should probably let the folks at SW make the final decision.
