Snakes and rats. Update: Success!

Was that her screen name here.

I follow her on facebook because she has extensive snake knowledge.

@moonlitoaksranch when I find her page on facebook I will give you a link. She has all kinds of tricks/ideas/tools to get snakes to eat frozen thawed.

I am just not remembering the name of her page right now and I did not find it in my quick look. Hopefully someone else comes along and knows it.

@moonlitoaksranch, I found it.

I always wonder what people do with those great big reptiles when they get tired of them. Besides releasing them into the Everglades. :roll_eyes: :rage:

I remember Lauruffian. It took me a minute but I do remember that she was breeding them and had some really beautiful snakes. She had a one that was classified as being lavender colored. Pythons or boas, IIRC.

@moonlitoaksranch Since that huge lizard was a breeding female that had laid eggs he sold her for $$$ to a breeder that had larger accommodations. He keeps his snakes and upgrades to larger digs for them. I did not like her the nasty thing. The snakes and lizards were okay. I liked them well enough.

Try dipping the thawed pinkie in the juice from canned tuna. It’s one of the tricks used to get reluctant feeders to eat. One of the things I liked about buying a snake from Laura is that she wouldn’t sell them until they were eating well and had she’d at least once. I have one of her original corn snake, Cleo’s babies.

Update: Harvey refused his frozen rat again. We’ll try some new tricks next week, including the tuna juice.

Meanwhile, the fuzzy we got was a little big, so he has a cage now with a heat lamp. Store only had newborns and fuzzies. They gave us the runt fuzzy. Eyes still mostly closed. Fed him successfully once, but this baby rat is thin and sneezes a bit. Might see if our vet will give me a little Baytril for him. If he responds and continues to feed, he’ll get a name. Not in the plan to add another pet, but you’ve got to be as ethical as possible.
