All went well!
We were out today for just under 2 hours and everything went great. A perfect fixture was chosen with very little ice, and everyone did great - both horse and hound. So glad I went. Thanks again Wateryglen for looking out for me. I had complete faith that my mare would handle the footing well, and I was very happy with how well she did. I downloaded both my google map (look at it in satellite view) and a TON of video (helmet cam.) Just need to figure out how to UPLOAD the video…

My mare’s foal is now 17 months old and is already a strapping 15 hands, as quiet as could be, and is going to give his momma a run for her money in a couple of years. I bred her to Rosenthal (Rubenstein).

He is lovely! Are you going to keep him as your hunter and example of terrific breeding and training for a horse for all seasons? The ones like your mare are rare jewels.

I’d love to keep him! He really is the culmination of what I breed for - great brain, good movement, the true “all-arounder”. I’m so happy with my mare, I keep saying I want to clone her. Honestly though, I think this young man is an improvement on perfection!
If I can get my SUPER fancy little Holstein/Dutch/Welsh coming three year old sold - He’ll come off the sales list! I’m almost at the point of putting her on the giveaway section here. I just have too many (all fabulous, but my pockets aren’t that deep). As my priorities have changed, and hunting is now what I live for (along with kids, and hubby… CAN’T forget about them) I need to put money aside… as addictions go - it’s an expensive one!

Finally started a blog!
As there’s more time between hunts I thought I’d start a blog. It was 50 degrees yesterday and after two wonderful outings last week, I washed the truck, scrubbed tack and bathed my horse. Of course, when the hunt tape was updated today - TOO WET.
I’m grateful for the opportunities we have to go out, and disappointed when we don’t. On the other hand, meets are canceled for good reason - so no hard feelings. I’d rather live to hunt another day, than miss out on a season due to a preventable mishap in the field!

Just me this time. My husband has a meeting in Orlando, and I was able to arrange to go out with the Misty Morning Hounds, two hours away! I’m so very excited.
I’m still hoping to make down to either Southern Pines, or Aiken depending on who I can convince to sit in a truck with me for 16+ hours.
Two hunts in one day… too much?
Let me start by saying: Yes, I’m certifiable. I have the opportunity to go out with two hunts in Florida next week, and only one day to do it in. It just so happens that one goes out at 8:00am and the other at 4:00pm. Plenty of time to go out with the Hunt number one, and travel two hours to get to Hunt number two with plenty of time to spare.
If you could, would you? Yes, I’m sure I’ll be sore. It’s not hard to down a couple of aspirin afterwards, and rejoice in the reason for the aches and pains (barring a fall). Hubby’s an understanding guy - I’m sure he won’t mind if I plop myself in the hotel lobby and sit there reading a book the entire next day. As long as I can make it to the black tie affair on friday (reminder - make sure the dress is full length just in case it needs to hide any unsightly blemishes).
So, what do my hunting godesses say?
If you’re going to be hunting made hunt horses, I think its a no brainer. Half the time I think I get tired from battling the greenies. When I have a chance to go out on a point and shoot I’m no were near as tired and sore. How many times will you be able to do this? Not too many I’m sure!!!
You can always use the excuse that you’re making up for all cancelled hunts!!
Yes, of course! Advil is your friend. I’ve gone out with three packs in one day once, and a number of times, two packs in one day. Usually all from same meet though! In fact, will be going to Red Rock’s 30th anniversary hunt week in a couple of months and we’ll be hunting beagles after the foxhounds are done each day, I think.
I think I’ve also managed to hunt in two different states in one day, but that might be a long story related to the Western Challenge. Anyhow, Yes, Just Do It!
Thanks ladies! So glad to hear that it CAN be, and has been done. Wow, I can’t imagine going out with beagles after a day’s hunt though. I would love to hear how you pulled off hunting in two states in one day???
I know for certain, I have a babysitter for the morning hunt, and still waiting to hear what’s available for the second.
I can’t wait. Next Wednesday is it. We arrive on Monday and leave on Saturday morning. Plenty of time to be a vegtable afterwards.:lol:
For a split second I thought about backing out. That danged fear of the unknown. Never been out with a drag hunt before, and just not sure how fast, fast is. Gonna go for it though. We only live once, and… gotta make up for the last couple of frozen months!

Of course you go to both and the dinner! It is good practice for Va Hunt Week. You are fit enough, and if you have made horses, it will be easy. No hills. :lol:.
Just hit the painkillers and have a nap in between or before the dinner. Lots of expresso to make it through the speeches. You will have plenty of adreneline for the hunting.
Then you have to tell the rest of us about it. We have to get something out of this for all our enabling!

I just reread your post. This is going to be easy. You have time before the dinner; it isn’t on the same day!
I have done the whole 5 1/2 hr hunt, came back and went to the hunt ball and then the next am everyone went hunting again. Of course, there were major breakfasts, too.
Just remember not to cross your legs at the dinner. They will charlie horse spasm like crazy! :eek:

Ladies, thanks to your input I have gone ahead and confirmed outings with both Misty Morning, and South Creek in Florida. I think I’ll be spending as much time behind the wheel getting two and from each meet, but I’m CERTAIN it will be well worth the effort.
I only have one day to hunt, so I intend to make the most of it. As I’ve never done a drag hunt before, I’m sure it will be quite an experience for me. I keep hearing it’s “fast”, well I really won’t know what that means exactly until I’m out there. I feel confident I have the skill set to handle whatever comes my way, and both hunts have assured me that my mounts are trustworthy in the hunt field. As all fences are optional, I’ll probably go out first flight with both!
As with every new experience I’ve been exposed to this season, I’m going with faith that I’ll make it to the other side… of the fence/field, fixture - IN ONE PIECE!

I truly am indebted to the chronicle forum, for all the savvy advice and encouragement that’s been bestowed upon my over that last several months. If I’m lucky, I’ll be able to thank a number of you in person in the near future. Have trailer, will travel! I’ll find you and share whatever libation fills my flask! I’m looking forward to VA hunt week next year and a planned trip south when hunting stagnates temporarily in my neck of the woods.
