Isn’t there a slaughter thread somewhere for this discussion? Or couldn’t you (g) start one?
Geez I should have posted disclaimers I suppose.
You had asked (facetiously) if Canads has herds of meat horses galloping around. We do. And they are the ones shipped lived, to “Asian” markets. This I know for a fact, have seen with my own eyes.
The light horses here get slaughtered , and I don’t know all the places that meat ends up. Europe for sure, but I’m not familiar with it any further than that. These horses are not shipped live to slaughter overseas.
These are separate processes, and where I live there are heavy horses raised for consumption, that are shipped live, in containers on airplanes. Apparently this meat brings a higher price as it is fresh and non tainted.
You do realize that bit you circled says exactly what I said? Planes of live horses for shipment for overseas slaughter are NOT light horses that may have been medicated. They are purpose-bred heavy horses.
Horse meat that is slaughtered here may very well be contaminated by drugs because those are the cast offs from other parts of the equine industry.
In your defence, I understand how confusing this may be. As horse people who are not involved directly with any part of the process, it is hard to untangle the two different avenues that lead to horse slaughter, but there are definitely two different avenues.
Ok whatever you say
Maybe just maybe think about how OT this thread went…. I usually observe that threads go OT if poster are uncomfortable with the content…. So in this thread to me it seems that people don’t really want to acknowledge how rough dressage training can become and switched over to various types of slaughter
Yes. Also the usual, “This is what you said!!!” because the person reading what was written doesn’t have enough knowledge of the full story … and doesn’t want to learn (and I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to learn about slaughter - I wish I didn’t know half as much as I do!)
I’m just unclear on what it is that you don’t believe? That heavy horses in Canada are bred purposely to get on planes (live) to go for overseas slaughter or that light horses are not put on planes live to go for overseas slaughter?
Maybe horse slaughter deserves it’s own thread? Maybe in Current Events rather than dressage?
I concur.
You brought the word culling into the discussion. That is how the thread went down the slaughter route. For anyone who is confused about my position on abusive training of dressage horses or any horse, it is wrong. Once I know a trainer, coach or breeder is abusive or supports an abuser, I won’t use their services and when asked why I will not support the individual I don’t mince words. I back my position with action.
I am done debating with you. Believe what you want as I will also do.
I know which point I was debating. It is not the same as yours. Just deal with me not agreeing with you. I tried to just walk away and you began to insult my knowledge.
Have a nice day.
On an on-track note; Kittel posted on his instagram when the news broke about this dispelling the acts and so forth and how they were waiting to hear how things will transpire. The comment section got extremely heated quickly. The post has since disappeared and there is no trace at all of his response to the abuse. This is the same guy who has videos on youtube of him in the warm up at the world cup performing extreme Rollkur and a horse with a severely blue tongue hanging out of its mouth.
Honestly I am thankful all of this is coming about but the abuse in the dressage ring has been going on for the past 20+ years and no one was called out in the warm up ring or Banned from their respective associations? Are they only going to take action when undercover video is taken and its broadcast all over the internet in a netflix-type documentary for the world to get ahold of?
wow!!!. I am always impressed by the mean girl club always supporting each other …. No… I was not the one introducing the word culling…… maybe it was you?
It was @mishmash who used it first and obviously she reconsidered by now and wrote she should have used another word…….
But thanks for thinking immediately about me
I tried to just walk away and you began to insult my knowledge.
I did no such thing.
I understand a well known dressage judge has posted comments defending H’s abuse and minimizing
spur injuries and blue tongues saying “everyone does it”.
I think this judge should be outed and his card taken away.

Good lord. Is he trying to never work again?
I do Not.

Who and where?
No you did not introduce the word, cull, but you did take part in the slaughter discussion and used it. So according to your supposition that those of us who went off topic were not wanting to discuss the Helglstrand’s abusive training practices, makes you one as well. From my limited time on this forum, I’ve noticed most topics have moments of being OT, because of issues that arise from the original topic.

.
Just saying in Germany they slaughtered 3600 horses last year, in the EU 160.000 and worldwide 5000000….
So I am really not sure why this argument is always brought up…
Well to me at seems that every time people here use the magic word “culling” they shiver and think how bad European horse breeders are.
