So it's been 5 years. And I've got TB

@Graymaresrule If you don’t mind me asking, what type of TB test did you get and have you been diagnosed with latent or active TB?

If it’s active and you were diagnosed via culture then 100% get treatment asap. If it’s latent it may be worth doing a second test to confirm.

For latent TB, the skin test has high false positive rates. There have been multiple issues with the QFT blood test and false positives as well.

I used to work for a TB diagnostic test manufacturer so feel to PM if you have questions and want to know more about the testing.

Thanks for the info.

Right now I don’t know what’s going on. My son who had the positive blood test seems to have latent TB. Because he travels so much he gets tested regularly and this is a new result.
He is currently in Honduras.

I may have panicked unnecessarily but I do have some kind of bug. I got 5 days of azithromycin last week and now I’m spiking a fever (102) again. iI am also coughing up really nasty stuff.

So its back to the clinic tomorrow.

I got a chest X-Ray last week and again today. The bronchiectasis symptoms in my lungs complicate things.
I have to go to the health department to get a TB test and right now I feel too crappy

@Graymaresrule - Generally you can’t get TB from someone who has latent TB. It’s only transmissible from active TB patients.

There are several known issues with the tests and false positives (happy to go into way too many details) but if you don’t believe you’ve exposed to an active case I would strongly suggest getting re-tested.

The antibiotic treatment for latent TB is not something you want to do casually. It’s a great tool if you need it but you don’t want to do it “just in case”.

Also, the chest x-Ray is only for active TB. The blood or skin test is to detect latent TB.

The current set of chest X-Ray is an attempt to figure out why I’m coughing up lots of nasty gunk and spiking fevers but there is too much going on in my lungs to get much detail. The radiologist can only say that the opacity has increased in a week. A and oh by the way, rule out malignancy. The bronchiectasis and CLL mess things up
