I try to stay on; it just seems to work better for guiding my horse when she is losing her brains. She is much more comfortable with being “pushed” toward something that disturbs her rather than being led to it. I did once get off of her at a tiny stream that she would not cross… and she leapt over it and nearly landed on top of me!
