Soaked timothy pellets - ok to give once or twice a week in winter as a "treat"?

Interesting link but with big rounds that go out for feeding, pretty impossible to slowly switch hay kinds. Just switched hay kinds here saturday, horses are fine. Went from grass hay back to alfalfa.

closest it gets to slowly switching hay kinds is. Putting out new hay before old hays gone.

Feeding hay pellets sometimes they get a 1/2 pound. Sometimes I give 3 or 4 pounds depends on the day.

I have older horse 1 is 20 and 1 is 22 and my horses is 25 with heaves and I am thinking about taking him off hay since he just spew it around his stall. I was thinking about putting on speedy beet pulp ( non GMO) and then give one flakes of soak hay plus his his grain which also breaks down to a mash.

to change the subject what products works good for sore hocks ? I am currently using equinty and I see no results. He hasn’t been ridden in 10 years due to his heaves .

I’ve added hay pellets or cubes a couple times a week with no problem. I would say a scoop of hay pellets every once in a while is pretty low risk if you introduced them slowly initially. But something I’ve found my horse loves even more is a little salt (a tablespoon or so) and a healthy pour of molasses in a 5 gallon bucket of very warm water. I use this trick if we’ve had especially cold weather or my older guy has stopped drinking well. He thinks it’s a treat, and I get the added bonus of getting an extra couple gallons of water into him.
